| No. 339 ~ Born in Arboth, Scotland, January 1866 William took trade training as a blacksmith and became expert as a farrier. Roamed the world until 1896 when he met and married Anne Gray in New South Wales, Australia. May 8, 1899 he joined the 4th Queensland Imperial Bushmen as a Farrier. He served in the Boer War in South Africa. He was awarded the Queen's South African Medal and Clasps. He was discharged in the fall of 1902 after having attained the rank of Sergeant. The family moved to Canada in 1905 and finally settled in Lashburn in 1909. He volunteered his services to the Canadian Army in 1914 and served for a short time. Because of his age and the lack of horses used in that war, his services were not needed and he was discharged in 1915. William passed away in January 1939 |
