| Branch of Service: 9th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force Enlisted: August 12, 1914 at Edmonton, Alberta, aged 24 Birthplace: North Cardigan, Kings, Prince Edward Island, February 18, 1890 Discharged: May 12, 1919, Calgary, Alberta Summary of Service: Sergeant John A. MacLean served in England and was transferred to France as a sapper in the 2nd Tunnelling Company. He was injured (buried alive) and convalesced in Boulogne, France. He was then transferred to the Canadian Engineer Unit at Bruay-en-Artois, France. He returned to Canada March 29, 1919. After discharge from the war he farmed in the Gully District, Lashburn, Saskatchewan. (Not far from his brother Spurgeon Bruce MacLean's farm at Waseca, Saskatchewan. He married Olive Kitching of Lashburn, Saskatchewan June 12, 1931. They had three children: Norman, Eleanor and Donald. John A. MacLean died August 20, 1944. |
