Agricultural Stretford
Stretford started of as a pig-town. It was known for its small market garden developments and it was not until the development of Trafford Park industrial complex in the early 1900s that this was really challenged However the past stayed for many years and lots of photographic evidence exists for us to see what this era was like.
Chapel Lane (above left). Although the house at the end has gone the row of cottages are still recognisable. The Bishop Blaize (right) was demolished and replaced by the Talbot Hotel. One landlord lost his licence for allowing bear-baiting. James Brindley stayed here whilst working on the Bridgewater Canal.
The fields belonging to Porch House Farm. It grew 'Stretford Beef' or rhubarb to you!
Vine Farm- now the site is covered by a traffic-island at the junction of Chester Road and Barton Road.
