The Fighting
Fundies vs. the Arties
Welcome. This website focuses on Themes of theological dominionism
and Christian political right in the novel Caught in
the Winds. While
not the most central theme in my novel, the presence of political
activism by extremist right wing Christians (Fundies), serves
as a constant back drop to this novel and at time rises to the
service.
Protagonist Morrie Schiller
just only wants to be an ordinary guy at a Christian school...
and to have a girl friend. However, he finds himself "caught"
between the more liberal progressives, "the arties",
on campus and the conservative "fundies" who a constantly
fighting for the heart and soul of the college. This leads to
many adventures, which include Morrie and his best friend, fundamentalist
Frank Blachford, unwittingly uncovering a plot of a right-wing
para-militia, which named the Right
Hand of God. They would overthrow the moderate president of
the school and replace him with a conservative ideologue. |
