Amy Monica Duran is 23 years old today.

Speaking as a guy (hard for me not to) Amy is probably on
the top five list of major babes to play at UC (come on,
ladies, I've heard you fawn over Jake).  Great smile.  Super
voice.  She should be on TV or Radio somewhere.  Skip that
silly grad school stuff!

Speaking as a UC fan, Amy was one of the most
non-spectacular, yet solid players ever at UC.

She bridged the gap between national titles of '95 and '00,
never having won one.  But her name is plastered all over
UC's career top ten lists.

5'11" G/F from Bethesda, MD--same hometown as her '99
co-captain teammate Courtney Gaine.

Left UConn with exactly 1000 career points (7.4ppg)--#18 all
time.  Shea passed her this year.

UC's career FT% leader--86%.  In her junior year she was
64-67 FT (96%)--highest ever single season at UC. 84% in 16
NCAA games.

Career 38% 3-point shooter.

Started all but one game in soph & jr years, then with the
talented, athletic incoming freshman class, started 18 of 26
games in her senior year--many due to the rash of
injuries--especially Ralph & Bird.

UC career record book:  135G is among top 7 (I think
Stacy/Paige passed her this year). 133 career 3PM is #6 all
time. 163 steals is #8 all time.

Junior year Amy was named to the '98 Big East Tournament
All-Tourney team after 17p in title win over RU and 15 in
semis vs ND.  UC was underdog in both games.  Remember that
back-breaking 3-pointer late in the title game vs RU?

Career high 22P vs SHall 1/98 and at Georgia 1/97.

Career high four 3PM vs Northwestern 11/97.

Career high 9 rebounds vs. Maine 2/98.

Career high 10 assists vs. Quinnipiac 12/98.

Career high 5 steals twice.

She didn't have the quickest feet (Geno used to kid her
about that) but she was one of UC's smartest defenders.  And
she blocked 29 shots in her career, including 14 her junior
season.

Amy was first team Nike All-American her senior year at
Stone Ridge HS, and graduated UC with a Psych degree.  She
was a Dean's List student, was a Big East Scholar-Athlete
her last three seasons, and was awarded the UConn Club's
"Senior scholar athlete" award 4/99--an award open to ALL UC
athletes--not just basketball.

Amy Duran was a special player at UConn.
