Here, all the real values for the Earth-Sun system were inserted. The orbit of the Earth is almost perfectly circular, just as it is in reality. Also, the period of rotation of the Earth was one year (the simulation would run about 5.7 days per frame, and so this result is not very exact).

In the following image,
the Earth was placed closer to the
Sun, with the same initial velocity and masses.
The orbit is no longer perfectly circular, but elliptical. By the density of the traces, one can also
tell that the planet is moving faster nearer the sun and slower farther
away.
