JUNE 2001: Silver Spring revitalization

The Discovery hole continues to be the focal point of the Silver Spring revitalization, as it will undoubtedly continue to be for many months to come. The site continues to buzz with activity as work continues on the substructure. All the underground parking currently being constructed will be invisible once the building is complete. The 24 hour webcam gives an overview of the changes.

Second layer of the underground parking is now under construction.

Work at the AFI site just up Georgia  Avenue also moves gradually along.

Looking toward Wayne and Georgia.

White hats = bosses?

In all kinds of weather….

Tons and tons and tons of cement made and poured on site.

June 29th: the third level decking for underground parking has been started while work on the 1st & 2nd decks continue elsewhere.

Even as the Discovery Center begins to rise up,  they continue to haul dirt out of the hole.

Another construction project in the wings is the MARC station that will be a part of the Transit Center at the Silver Spring Metrorail station. Construction trailers on the site signal a project about to get underway.
