Background
Merclynn is a member of the Medusae Family of the Lion Clan. Merclynn is the second child in the family and has one older brother, two younger brothers and one younger sister. He holds great love for his youngest sister. His grandfather is a distant member of the royal family. Even after the family lost part of its prestige in a historical power struggle the family is still a respected throughout the clan. Although the eldest brother is suppose to be the next in line inherit my father's position and possibility my grandfathers, Merclynn seems favored to get their inheritance as he was gifted his fathers sword and armor. His elder brother instead with no child after the demise of his wife, seems to have been looked over for the honor. Merclynn has three kids of his own in fact, and his grandfather is very fond of them and him. Merclynn is grateful that his wife helps take care of the household and their family.

Once, Merclynn visited the master of the Kitsu Monastery of our clan. He mentioned that he had the potential to be a shugenja and that he might have the wisdom to succeed his father, who is shugenja too. A choice was given to him either to be a samurai or shugenja, but he decided to take on the master advised and completed his training at the monastery as a shugenja. Master advised him not to use the power for evil, but to uphold the honor of our family and for the good of humanity. Since taking his advise, Merclynn decided to search for a path to gain ultimate knowledge and wisdom to improve the families honor, and destroy evil correcting the balance of Talinar. He senses that Talinar is on the brink of destruction and perhaps his quest for ultimate knowledge would help to reverse the damage on the beloved planet itself.
