Bushi

 

Background:

While the ranks of command and honor are held by Clan Warriors normally great respect and honor is also deserved of the Bushi.  These are the grunts and file warriors for the clans.  They come from all walks of life.  They are their own masters and many serve as mercenaries for clans.  Some walk the life of adventure and go where the trail leads.  All are destined to become battle hardened warriors who know all to well the perils of Talinar.  Live by the sword die by the sword is the way of a Bushi.  Some dishonored Clan Warriors and Kensai take up the path of a Bushi but these are extremely rare cases as most would chose death before dishonor.

Skills:

The Bushi’s class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Climb (Str), Craft (Int), Intimidate (Cha), Knowledge (local) (Int), Profession (Wis), Ride (Dex), Survival (Wis), and Swim (Str).  

 

Skill Points per level: (2 + Int modifier).

 

 

Weapon and Armor Proficiency:

A Bushi is proficient with all simple and martial weapons and with all armor (heavy, medium, and light) and shields (including tower shields*).

 

*Tower Shields are extremely rare given the amount of metal required and extreme heat of Talinar, but Bushi are able to use them.

Bushi Bonus Feats

Any feat that is a Combat Feat.

 

Weapon of Choice

All Bushi are trained in the use of nearly every weapon but each has a particular weapon she prefers to use in combat. 

She gains Weapon Focus with this weapon of choice.

 

Tough Life

Bushi are survivors and can always find work, a place to sleep, and work. 

She does not pay living costs and can live at common level for free in any urban environment. 

Bushi can also scrounge for food when not in a city environment living off the land at poor level without the need for a survival check. 

Bushi gains the Fast Healer Feat.

 

Professional Soldier

A Bushi is a trained professional soldier. 

She has ranks in Profession (Soldier) equal to her current level, this skill is treated as a class skill and receives the +3 rank bonus for class skills.

During times of war or trouble a bushi can make the full check result in tael not just half this is to represent the need for trained soldiers. (DM's Discretion)

 

Resistance I

Hardened by daily life and the toils of Talinar a Bushi focuses her inner ki on self preservation learning to resist the lure and perils of adventuring.  She gains Iron Will, Great Fortitude, or Lightning Reflexes for free.

 

Tools of the Trade

Starting at 3rd level, a Bushi learns to be more maneuverable while wearing armor.

Whenever he is wearing armor, he reduces the armor check penalty by 1 (to a minimum of 0) and increases the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed by his armor by 1.

Every four levels thereafter (7th, 11th, and 15th), these bonuses increase by +1 each time, to a maximum –4 reduction of the armor check penalty and a +4 increase of the maximum Dexterity bonus allowed.

In addition, a fighter can also move at his normal speed while wearing medium armor. At 7th level, a fighter can move at his normal speed while wearing heavy armor.

 

Resistance II

Hardened by daily life and the toils of Talinar a Bushi focuses her inner ki on self preservation learning to resist the lure and perils of adventuring.  She gains Iron Will, Great Fortitude, or Lightning Reflexes for free.  She must choose a different feat than the one chosen for Resistance I.

 

Weapon Specialization

A bushi through intense training gains weapon specialization with her Weapon of Choice

 

Mark of Heroes

Normal adventurers from every background a Bushi learns that even the meek can perform great deeds.  1/day per 5 levels (max 3) she can call on the spirits of her ancestors to help her and gains the benefits of the Heroism spell with a caster level equal to 1/2 her bushi level this is a move action to activate.

 

Resistance III

Hardened by daily life and the toils of Talinar a Bushi focuses her inner ki on self preservation learning to resist the lure and perils of adventuring.  She gains Iron Will, Great Fortitude, or Lightning Reflexes for free.  She must choose a different feat than the one chosen for Resistance I or II.

 

Greater Weapon Focus

As the natural progression of training in the use of her chosen weapon a Bushi gains greater weapon focus with the weapon of her choice. 

 

Greater Weapon Specialization

As the natural progression of training in the use of her chosen weapon a Bushi gains greater weapon specialization with her Weapon of Choice.

 

Sword or the Shield

At lvl 17 a Bushi is able to specialize in one area of fighting defense or offense.

She gains either Weapon Mastery or Armor Mastery.

At lvl 19 she gains the Mastery she did not pick at lvl 17.
