| I ran as fast as I could down to the beach. I was not going to let her get away this time. When I got there I didnt bother stopping this time and I just ran down the shoreline. Just like last time I found it hard to see, but this time I was determined to find her. No one can just disappear. I ran till I was out of breath and I couldnt run anymore. I was almost angry by that time. How could she have gotten away from me again? I slowly headed back toward the cabin. I got near the path, where I came in, when I hear a quiet laugh. I whipped my head around looking for where the laugh came from. Just off the beach a little, sitting on a large rock, there she was. To my surprise she was completely naked. She had to be the most beautiful girl I had ever seen in my life. She told me that she was pleased to meet me, stuck her hand out and she asked my name. She didnt even seem to mind the fact that she was talking to me completely nude. It was like it was nothing to her. So I told her and asked what her name was. Her name was November. Ill never forget that name. She pulled the strings of my track pants and slid them down. Then she slipped off my shirt. I stood there in front of her just as naked as she was. She motioned for me to come and sit with her. So I did. I sat down on the beach, in front of her, and we talked for hours. I dont even remember half the things we talked about that night. I just couldnt believe what was happening. It felt like a dream. It began to get cold around two in the morning and she got up off her rock. I thought she was going to leave and that I would never see her again. She stood up, stretched and looked down at me. She then asked me if Id stay here with her on the beach till morning. I had no problem with that. She walked over to where I was sitting down and sat down next to me. She put her arms around me and cuddled with my shoulder. I put my arms around her and we listened to the waves crash against the shore. I ran my fingers through her long beautiful hair while she rested. I did this for what seemed like hours. She looked up at me and put her hand on my face and gave me the softest kiss I had ever had. I didnt know what to do. She caught me off guard and I wasnt expecting it. I just stared at her for a moment and tried to figure out what had happened. She just smiled and put her head back on my shoulder. Then we stayed there together and slowly fell asleep, listening hypnotic to the crash of the shore. The next morning my fellow employees show up at my cabin, but I am nowhere to be found probably because I was still on the beach. After some searching of my cabin, which was spotless I might add, one of my workers walked toward the shore. He walked right by me at first and it was until he back tracked and walked back toward the cabin when he noticed me on the rock. Sweet Jesus Sue, Im sorry, I didnt know you werent decent. Hey, dont get me wrong I'm all for alternative lifestyles and everything, but Christ, youre my boss! I jumped up at the sound of his voice. Oh my God, I must have slept here all night. I yelped while I searched for my clothing. As luck would have it, other workers were now on the beach looking for me. They all stared at me. Me wearing nothing, but a smile, well not actually a smile, more like a horribly shocked and embarrassed face, but whos keeping track? I found my clothes and put them on. As I slipped my pants on I realized that November was nowhere to be found. I looked at Daniel, the person who found me, and asked him if he had seen anyone with me. He shook his head. I looked up and down the beach. She was nowhere to be found. She was gone again. I walked back toward the cabin and the others followed. I could hear them talking amongst themselves. I gave them an icy stare and they quickly became silent. I didnt really care, but I didnt want them talking about it while I was right there. I still felt embarrassed by the whole ordeal. When we got back to the cabin I turned to them all and said I am sorry about this morning. I should have been here to greet all of you. I wont let it happen again. Now lets get this barbeque started! The rest of the afternoon I spent drinking my embarrassment away with my fellow co-workers. The incident came up a few times during the evening, but, by then, I was to in the bag to even care. So the night came to an ending and eventually so did the weekend. I saw them all off and I was once more left alone at my cabin. I ran up onto my patio and stared down toward the beach. No one was there. I screamed at the top of my lungs for her to come, but there was no answer, no one showed, just the wind rustling through the branches of the trees. That evening I walked down to the rock where we had spent the night together. I slipped off my clothes and climbed up on the rock. I sat there waiting for her, the wind blowing through my hair, the setting sun silhouetting my body as I stared out into the sparkling water. Now, 20 years later, I still wait there every weekend. I sit on the rock where we first met, in hopes that someday my beautiful November will come back to me. By: Travis Whalen |
