Contrabass <-- remember that word!

If you like a little too much Saxophone, then the Nuclear Whales Saxophone Orchestra is for you.  Now I love the eccentric and the exotic, but I do have to admit that this was a little too much sax for me.  Not don't get me wrong, we had a "blast".  We were introduced to sax's that we did not know even existed.  Foremost on this list would be the mighty Contrabass that rang out like a 100 year old foghorn and weighs about as much as a lighthouse.

The musical repertoire included jazz, swing classical and some very interesting interpretations self stylings of familiar songs.  This sextet exudes energy and brings the audience along for the ride.  They can be a little corny, but that is part of their charm.

Their leg kicking, marching, rockette type dance routines become quite repetitive - but then again there is only so much you can do with a sax strapped to you.

Overall we found it quite enjoyable for our first time exposure to the Nuclear Whales.  We especially liked the fact that they made themselves available during the intermission (to sell stuff) and afterwards to talk with the crowds.  It was a small venue, which added the experience.  All ages were present, some dressed up and other quite casual (tshirts and birkenstocks).  A clean performance for the whole family to enjoy.
