Winner
of the competition:
The
winner of the competition for Designing the Emblem and Logo for Almería
Mediterranean Games 2005, decided on 20th December 1996, was the proposal put
forward by Yves Zimmermann, of Zimmermann Asociados S.L., Design and Communication
(Barcelona).
Later on, in July 2000, the Almería company Plataforma Publicidad won the competition for publishing the Image Manual of COJMA 2005.
Explanation:
Almería
is a bright Mediterranean city with strong influences of Arab culture at its
roots.
For the
city the organisation of the Mediterranean Games for 2005 represents the
opportunity to make the city's beauty and the hospitality of its people known to
the worid.
This is
why a symbol combining two concepts - sports and Almería - was created.
The fírst
is reflected in the intertwining forms of the star, which represents the
brotherhood between che Mediterranean countries and in the star itself, as a
symbol of competitive excellence and triumph. The character of the city is
represented by means of a design with clearly Arab reminiscences which brings to
mind the inscriptions found on many of the city monuments, with dynamic modern
strokes. The colours of the star, on the other hand, are meant to transport
viewers to banks of the Mediterranean, remind them of the light, sea and
powerful contrasts characteristic of the coastal villages, and with which all
those participating in the games will feel identified.
