The day the Administrators came in.
Or; wooooooooooohooooooo!!
I have been meaning to write this one for a long time, but I have been incredibly busy lately. Let me tell you why;

On Friday the 2nd of May, the company I presently work for called in the administrators. Administrators are people that move in if you screwed up with your finances or one of your backers pulls out and that causes you problems. One of our investors from the States got cold feet and decided to withdraw from the company I now work for. Fair enough.
This of course is damaging to the cash-flow of any new company so the Board pulled in the administrators.
I knew they would be coming in as I had been tipped of by someone higher then myself, but this is not the point.

It was beautifull! A 102 people, 50% of the workforce, lost their jobs. Almost all the incompetents in the company got the sack. My 1st AND 2nd line manager got the boot and it was great! (I already knew I was going to keep my job).
The only person left in the company that should have been sacked but was on the "To Stay" list was my incompetant and lazy as hell counterpart.

Sure some good people left but I don't really care, I was told in advance that if I kept working my arse off my promotion would be soon.
And I was amased but after 1 week I got my promotion! They can't make it official yet, as long as the administrators are trying to find a new backer (which should be completed soon as there are companies dying to invest) they can't promote anyone, but it should be soon. I will be promoted within my trial-period...Just like I said when I joined this company! (OK, I said within 4 months and my trial period is only 3). I am currently busting my guts as I always did for every other company I worked for, after all my team lost more then 50% of the people and I am working with a lazy moron so I have to compensate for them by doing standard 13 hour days 7 days a week (and I am in my second 22 hour shift this week), but the difference between this company and my old employer is that the Board actually appreciates this. (I report directly to the board now, just the way it should be; No crappy incompetent managers with their own agenda in my way) The salary increase will be quite decent and the main pleasure will be sacking the moron. Hell I'd work this month for free if I could sack him now!

This guy took 4 days off right after 100 people lost their jobs and we were struggling to sort out staffing. I had HR people helping out with a job they didn't know how to do and this bastard was off! Immediatly on the Tuesday, he called in because his CAT WAS SICK!..Really! His cat threw up and he stayed home! He is sick again now so he should be out! I have worked 14 days since this thing happened. I have clocked well over 170 hours these past two weeks (13 days actually) and he has done 4(!!!) 8.5 hour days!!
It will be a pleasure sacking him. Everybody knows I will sack him and every body supports me on this one...you can piss of managers but never piss of the board, especially a board whom might have just lost their life-savings.

Life is great! The company kept me on because they knew they needed people like me to be successfull, the investors will be in shortly and my promotion means I get about double what I am making now.
The company also finally realises that I, and a lot of other people, were right all along. Don't screw your customers by getting them something cheap and unreliable but get a decent product out there and then sell it "en-masse".This company will be soo incredibly successfull now it's almost scary, and I am the highest in command at my department. My managers won't return..thank God.

As they say; Tough for the people that got the sack but nobody, but a select few, are irreplaceable.
Am I tough? Insensitive? Uncaring?
No...This is business..get used to it!
