| Management 101. Or; they just don't get it, do they? |
As a great Fan of the Dilbert comics, I have always believed (And rightly so) that most managers are incompetent...for the simple reason that they have no idea what happens on the workfloor (nor do they care). The higher you get in a company, the greater the level of incompetence. The amount of stupid decisions the average manager makes is incredible, the normal minions would have been fired ages ago for making the same mistakes....From coming up with Stupid ideas to "Improve Productivity" to cutting costs in exactly the wrong place..none of the ideas they come up with actually work though they all believe they wil, you can ask yourself "Then why do they come up with such stupid ideas, and why do they actually go ahead with them?" l asked myself this question and, as with all correct answers, the answer was blatently obvious; Because noone has the balls to tell them their plans don't work! The amount of Asskissing that goes on in the average Company in the UK is greater then the national product..I have rarely seen soo many people "pucker-up" as soon as a Manager (Or other Superior) comes up with an idea...They ofcourse KNOW it won't work but won't tell Management because they are a bunch of Little Chickenshits whom are afraid of losing their little jobs (This can also be described as "The UK mentality", although it is found in many companies outside of the UK..My friends in the States tell me it's just as bad over there..but then again what do you expect from Americans..people that sincerely believe they are God's only creatures on the face of this planet). I have actually heard Managers say; "I'd rather have someone tell me that something is a great plan and just don't do it, then having them tell me what's wrong with the plan and then execute it to perfection!" WHAT???? A manager telling his/her people to lie to his/her face??? Ofcourse only to protect their own EGO...(In the UK people sincerely believe that if you have a better paid job then someone else they are superior human-beings! You could say it's somewhat similar to what the Nazi's said, I am superior because I have got blonde Hair..also a statement buildt on an empty foundation) The other, major problem, is that as soon as some people get promoted they loose all respect for the people they have been working with ...they start treating them like complete incompetents and make them look like morons.They don't have the balls to be honest to them and therefor lie about everything they do from "No we are not considering cutting jobs" to not telling them, "The reason why I did not promote you is because other people are simply better at this point in time". That's when you start seeing results drop, in general people that work for a company have a better idea of what's going on then management, afterall it's not management that is in touch with the customer. You are supposed to fucking know what your people hate! You were once one of them!! Ofcourse the beauty is that if you don't kiss enough ass you will never get a promotion!..Managers only hire "friends",very few people in the company I work in are promoted on their results..most get promoted because they have got a "positive attitude"..meaning ofcourse they would lick the sweat between the buttcracks of all the Managers, if asked (Hell, some of them even offer to) I got promoted within two months after arriving at the company..not because my nose was soo far up the arse of my manager I could see what she had for lunch but because they didn't know me yet. I don't kiss ass, EVER! That's why I have been screwed over many a time by Senior-management (People with the brains of a demented 95 year-old) and that's why I will never EVER be promoted within this company again! Fair enough...I don't like the taste of Shit..it's too bad I have to work with people that are full of it..the smell is unbearable. Ofcourse I do get the results they need, but that is beside the point when it comes to promotions. How I got the results I need? Treat people the way they are supposed to be treated, if one of "my people" knows something better then I do...I listen to him and follow his advice.IT'S AMAZING! REVOLUTIONARY!!!! Why didn't anyone else ever think of this! EEHHH they did, YOU DID when you were still a minion! Also you don't have to like the people you are working with,you are working to get results! Granted, it is easier to work with someone you like...but if THEY are incompetent YOU are screwed... If you promote asskissers you get incompetent,backstabbing, assholes!....In my company they call it "Best person for the Job!"...We are proud to have people running the show that have no idea of what they are doing. I understand management has to look at the "big picture", unlike the normal minions..however I have been in management myself and trust me IT IS POSSIBLE to look at the big picture without loosing touch with what "your people" think, do and say...It's all about respect...If UK managers could get rid of their GOD-complex, they would be able to get the results..unlike they do now. I really hope that somewhere down the line someone will standup in my company and pay some attention..Promote the people that get the results and treat other "lesser" beings with the respect they deserve..Right now it is hardly ever done and you see that in the results (If your head is not stuck up someones ass ofcourse). |
