General Information

Objective:
The La Porte DOGFISH Swim Teams primary objective is to provide a competitve summer swim program for youth under the age of 19 residing in the City of La Porte and/or the La Porte Ind. School Distaict. Secondly, but no less important, the objective is to maintain and operate the organization and team at the highest possible level of fun!!! We guarantee your child(ren) will come away from this experience with improved self-esteem and fond memories of good times for the summer.

Eligibilty:
Swimmers are eligible to join the DOGFISH if they are 18 years of age or younger on May 1, 2000 and they can swim 25 yards. To join the team for the first time, a swimmer must be able to swim one (1) length of a 25 yard pool.

First Year Members - Try Outs:
New swimmers must try out for the coaches during specified times. .

Registration Fee:
Registration Fees must be paid and registration forms completed prior to "trying out" or practicing

    ---    Additional Swimmers                                     $65.00

Fundraiser:
All swimmers must participate in the fundraiser. If the parent prefers, a buy-out fee of $45.00 can be paid instead of the child participating in the fundraiser

Team Membership:
The Parents or guardians become voting members of the DOGFISH upon full payment of registration fees. There is one vote per family.

The Fastest 90 Days of the Summer:
The DOGFISH swim season begins April 4th for our returning swimmers and the first "full" practice with both returning and new swimmers is on May 1st and ends on July22nd with the T.A.A.F. meet, depending upon eligibility

Swim Meet Duration (How long does it last):
Assume the mindset that these events are routine Saturday picnics. Make them fun outings for the whole family. Regular CCSL swim meets, held on Saturday, are from 7:00am until around 1:00pm, although some may last longer. Swimmers must be on time; swimmers that are late may be disqualified from meets, due to league rules. (This is covered more in the section "Swim Meet Procedurs and Schedule" in the Handbook on pages 8 and 9)

Stuff to take to the Swim Meets:
Don't forget the following items: Lawn chairs, Sunscreen, Shade Tents/ Umbrellas, Coolers, Snacks (or use the consessions), Games, Books, Tape/CD Players, Mosquito repellant, Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles and Cousins

Swim Meet Operations:
Please help us if you are able to, with "running" the swim meets. We currently have a small core group of hardworking parents that are the backbone of this program. Although we would like to encourage every parent to help with the swim meets, we know it is unrealistic to expect 100% parental support. However, it takes 50 - 60 volunteer parents to "run a swim meet". If you have no experience, we will train you. Please refer to the Parent Participation section of the Handbook to find a volunteer job that suits your intrest and available time.

Related Organizations:
The La Porte DOGFISH is a part of the Clear Creek Swimming League, Inc. (CCSL) for the majority of the swim meets. Eligible members of our team may also participate in two Texas Amateur Athletic Federation (T.A.A.F.) sponsored swim meets. Please refer to the CCSL and T.A.A.F. sections of the Handbook.
