Hagatha

You were once so close . . .
So bright a star
So beautiful, with laughter and love
Swarming around you like angry bees
Everyone near you was stung
You knew where you were going
And you told us all,
"Just wait . . .
Better yet, jump in - there's always
Room for more!"

With a quick smile
And a warm hug
You had more wisdom in
Your little finger
Than in all the books in the world
Somehow
Somewhere
Someone
Killed it all.
The beauty and laughter of your star
Was snuffed,
But you held on to the
Light of a solitary candle
A tiny flame of hope and love,
Fed on faith and friendship,
One that eventually couldn't
Hold back the nightmares
Then came and the pain
That ruled you.
The cruelty that haunted you
Perverted the life you tried to live
Until, one night you gave in...
now, your pain has traded hands.
You sleep eternally.
But left us all here
To hurt. . .
To grieve. . .
To be tormented by your tourmenters.
The selfishness of your forfeit
Has loosened them upon your betrayed,
More precious to me was the love in your heart
Than all the gold or jewels in the world.
