Coherence

the words tumble quickly
through the crazed corridors of my mind
everything ever held within
seething
pulsating
crying out
like wild disco lights
the words dissolve
only to slide,
thick and damp,
into other groupings
their fluid movements are constant
the speed dizzying
and exciting
the thoughts are caught but for a
fraction of a second
like the heartbeat
between breaths,
quick and sharp,
before sliding on to catch
another moment . . .
the swirling cacophany of thought
running ~ always running on ~
unhindered
so quick to escape
lest it be trapped forever
by my hand
on and on they flit
just out of reach
with the music growing ever more frantic
the smallest detail
catches the eye,
as the brain drives forward,
holding the attention half a hitch
too long;
pausing the chaser
as the thought flees
the harder i try to catch
what is flowing over my brain
the closer i come to drowning in it,
my steps dragging and
my hands grasping . . .
the sensation slows me more
as i push harder
all the while knowing
i'd lost long ago
yet unwilling or
unable to give up the prize
i so desire.
to slow the film . . . . . . .
to freeze even one frame . . . . . . .
to know even to understand
just one tiny dance
that twirls unendingly
blending one~to~another
pace frenzied
in my skull . . .
