| It was a Sabbath afternoon and we had a pathfinders meeting. I was instructed to give a lesson and I picked "addopt an SM (Student Missionary)" so I had the kids writing to one of five of my friends around the world as SM's... and as we were doing so, I heard this big THUD on the window. I was facing the window and saw everything but I thought it was a tennis ball at first. Then I realized it couldn't have been, it was to big and not round. I exclaimed "WAS TAHT A BIRD?" And as I said that 10 kids jumped infront of the window to look out and see if it was or not. I didn't see anything at first, and then somebody said, Yeah it was!!! and there in the grass was a little green lorikeet. so as I frantically ran back and fort outside trying to find a way to get to the back of the church, and getting locked out the front of the church, I ran around and got back in the side and came back to the window. Somebody had jumped out the window of another room and gotten the poor bird which was still very alive. I asked for it and "M&M" handed it to me. I put the poor little buddie in my jumper and let it calm down. |
| I had pathfinders sorunding me trying to see the cute little bird. It had such a bright bright orange beak, green feathers, and sharp very sharp might I add claws... I could tell the bird was very frustrated with allt he noise and kids everywhere so I tried to find a room with nobody in it and the bird calmed down a bit in my jumper. Soon I asked one of my pathfinders to get my digital camera so we could get some good pictures of this beautiful bird. She ran and got it for me and took random shots. These are the best two that turned out. I can't beleive I got the chance to hold a WILD bird! I've always wanted a wild bird to just fly from the sky and land on my hand weather or not I have bird sead or not... This is as close as it gets. The poor buddie had a small cut on it's head, and a feather or two ruffeled up in the back near it's tail. The bird tried to take of fflying around the room and I had to catch it again. I figured that since it was getting a sence of what had happened and frustrated being captured I should let it go. It only bit me 3 times since I had it in my jumper and I was holding it... 3 was plenty for me, the third time it got visous and started to wiggle it's beak back and forth to break the skin on my knuckle a bit. Once I released the bird I went and washed my hands with extreamly hot soapy water which stung like crazy, but I didn't want to get a funkey aussie bird deasise... THE END..... |
