An Office
Were you first hired as the office manager?
No. I worked my way up by doing different jobs in the office. It’s a big plus for the office manager to understand everyone’s job.
I was first hired as a file clerk. I filed all the important papers. I also made copies and collated papers.
After passing a typing test, I was promoted to secretary. I worked on the computer, transcribed notes, and typed letters.
Meanwhile, I took classes at a business college at night. So, when the former office manager retired, I applied and got the job. Starting at the bottom gave me the experience to get to the top.

EJ’s Market
3456 Broadway
Oxford, CA 92113
Dear Sir:
I saw your ad for a checker on the college job board yesterday. I believe I have the skills and experience for this job.
In my parents’ market in China, I waited on customers. I also drove a truck and loaded it at the farmer’s market. In the U.S. I learned to use a cash register working at a restaurant.
I speak Chinese fluently. I know this will be helpful to many of EJ’s Chinese customers.
I am very interested in interviewing for this job. Please call me at 555-6314.
Sincerely,
Dan King
