You work as a writer. Does that mean it’s easy for you to write?

No! Most people don’t understand how many times a writer has to rewrite and edit a story. Sometimes I write the first draft and read it to a friend to get feedback. She tells me what she finds interesting and what she finds boring or confusing. I often have to start all over again!

It’s easiest to write about things that I like reading about or that I have experienced myself. I’ve always loved action stories and books about animals. Now, I often write nature programs for TV and film. But writing is never easy, even for professional writers.

Recreation Fair to Open  

The Recreation Fair opens Friday with hands-on hobbies and games. Fair-goers can take a watercolor painting class, build model planes, or try out many crafts and sports.

A master woodworker will supervise a chessboard project. A prize-winning knitter will assist fair-goers in choosing yarn to knit a sweater by hand.

The Fair will provide balls and other equipment for sports. Game players can participate in a checkers tournament, or play electronic video games.

The Fair’s manager, Tony Thompson, says, “We want people to do things, rather than just to watch.”

Places to Go

Clark: Where do you want to go this weekend?

L uisa: I like City Park. They have museums and a zoo.

Clark: I don’t like the zoo much, and I don’t want to be indoors in a museum.

L uisa: Well, how about ging to a baseball game at Brookline Stadium?

Clark: That would be fun for me, but I thought you didn’t like baseball.

L uisa: Well, what about the county fair? They have a carnival with rides and games.

Clark: Great idea! Is 3:00 a good time?

L uisa: Three o’clock is perfect. See you then.
