How has technology changed the librarian’s job?

Technology has changed my job and also what a library has. Libraries offer a lot more than books. Just come to our media section! Anyone with a library card can borrow records, CDs, videos, and audiocassettes.

The computer is now one of the most important ways to find information. Anyone can use the Internet on our library computers.

Technology has also changed my job. I can find a book in other libraries using our online catalog. Also, checking out books is much faster.

Technology has made important changes in the work of the librarian.

Dear Cindy:

Imagine waking up every morning to the smell of fresh donuts and coffee! A dream come true, my new apartment is above a donut shop.

Everything I need is within walking distance. I can buy milk at the convenience store across the street. There’s a Laundromat just two doors down. If I’m hungry, I cross the street to the fast food restaurant. I can even buy newspapers from home at the newsstand on the corner.

Got to go now--the street vendor is selling ice cream in the park!

S id: Yes, officer. I came home and saw that my computer was gone.

O fficer: I can see you’ve had a lot of vandalism too. Did you lock your doors?

S id: Yes, I always lock them.

O fficer: Good. Remember, don’t open your doors to strangers or walk alone.

S id: I know. I walk with a friend and stay on well-lit streets.

O fficer: You know a lot about safety.

S id: I should. I'm a retired police officer.
