Articles แปลว่า “ คำนำหน้านาม ” มี 2 ชนิด ชึ่งมีรายละเอียดดังนี้

 

::: I. Indefinite Article: A, AN

>> 1/ ใช้ A นำหน้านามที่เป็น เอกพจน์, นับได้, ขึ้นต้นด้วยพยัญชนะ และมีความหมายทั่วไป เช่น : A table, A week, A boy, A pen

Example:

I have a pen.

I have studied English for a week

 

>> 2/ ใช้ A นำหน้านามที่ขึ้นต้นด้วยสระแต่อ่านออกเสียงเป็นพยัญชนะ หรือ นามตัวนั้นมี Adjective ที่ขึ้นต้นด้วยพยัญชนะมาขยายอยู่ข้างหน้า เช่น : A university, A European, A uniform, A big umbrella…

Example:

David is a European living in Thailand

I bought a yellow umbrella yesterday.

 

>> 3/ ใช้ An นำหน้านามที่ขึ้นต้นด้วยสระหรือนามขึ้นต้นด้วยพยัญชนะแต่อ่านออกเสียงสระ และนามนั้นต้องนับได้, เป็นเอกพจน์ และ มีความหมายทั่วไปด้วย เช่น : An orange, An elephant, An hour, An honourable guest…etc.

Example:

I ate an orange after my lunch.

There is an elephant in Dusit zoo.

 

>> 4/ ใช้ AN นำหน้านามเอกพจน์ที่มี Adj. ขึ้นต้นด้วยสระมาอยู่ข้างหน้านามนั้น เช่น : An important thing, An interesting story, An expensive toy . . …etc.

Example:

She is an important girl for me.

It is an interesting story.

 

>> 5/ ใช้ A, AN นำหน้านามที่กล่าวถึง อาชีพ, สัญชาติ, ... และเป็นตัวแทนของพวกเดียว หรือ เดียวกันด้วย เช่น : A doctor, A teacher, An actress, A Thai, An American, A dog,…etc.

Example:

A teacher is a hard job.

A dog is a faithful animal.

::: II. Definite Article: The

>> 1/ ใช้ The นำหน้านามที่กล่าวขึ้นมาเป็นครั้งที่ 2, 3....

For example:

- when I was young I studied in a school, the school is beautiful and clean.

 

>> 2/ เมื่อผู้พูดคาดคะเนว่า ผู้ฟังรู้ว่า ผู้พูด พูดถึงเจาะจงนามตัวไหน

For example:

- Please open the windows

- Whose the pen is on the table?

 

>> 3/ ใช้นำหน้านามที่มีเพียงสิ่งเดียวในโลก

For example:

 

>> *The Zero Article*
