Sabaidee Saysomvang and welcome to LaoPYs Interview Corner on June.  Thank you very much for your time with us today and we hope that we can learn something from your experience. Shall we start our interview ...

1)      First of all,  can you tell us more about yourself? Who are you and what are things that bring you to join SSEAYP 30th?

Well, I am Saysomvang Souvannavong, 19, PY 2003, SG G, and Pick is what others call me. I am a student of ADS (Australia Development Scholar). I am just an ordinary person who always likes adventure and discovery.   What I had heard about SSEAYP is the ship program for the youth in ASEAN + Japan at the time I sat on the exam. No sooner had I discussed with PYs than I discovered it is much more than. Therefore, I can

2)      Back to last year, Pick, Can you pick us a couple of your most memorable experience in SSEAYP 30th?

Is it already a year? I don't feel that at all. However, there were a couple experiences that I never forget, which are growing up my thought and getting to know how people from other countries think.
If you were the NL of my year, you would exclaim: What is this little boy doing here! I was definitely young and innocent before SSEAYP 30th began. Even though, I've learned many things from both my beloved LPYs and my SSEAYP friends. I've learned to strengthen myself by being active all the time and tried not to miss any activities on the ship.

3) Do you think SSEAYP have some impact to your life, your love or your study?

As I mentioned above, SSEAYP is the great experience that makes me "me" I got a chance to discover myself - the strength and weak points, and tried to improve my weak points as much as I can. Once I got the ADS scholarship, I really wanted to say thanks・to SSEAYP because I got many useful ideas from my fellow PYs.

4) Do you find this program similar to or different from what you expected before you join the program?

It is totally different from what I expected before I join the program. I had thought that SSEAYP is the program for fun, for traveling, and for relaxing. It wasn't until I sat on the first SG meeting. I found that it is the program for competing and being aware all the time under the smiling faces; then became good friendships to each other. LPYs always said: It is the profit of our life・ and I think it is true.

5) Pick, What kind of sports are you good at? When you feel boring with your study what are things you prefer to do and why?

Well, I like playing every sport, especially volleyball, badminton and table tennis because I have the equipment at home. And when I feel boring with my study, I would play those sports and do some activities that refresh myself such as talk to people around me, do yoga, listen to my favorite album, eat something, and then go back to study. They enable me to study more
effectively.

6) If someone asked you to do something that you did not think was appropriate, how would you handle the situation?

I used to be asked to do something that I did not think was appropriate. What I had done was just deny it politely and explain him/her why I cannot do it. Actually ideas will pope up that immediate.

7) Do you think what are the problems our Lao youth facing now? And in your opinion, what are the best ways to solve those problems?

I think Lao youth are facing with lack of confidence issue. Lao teenagers are too shy and afraid to tell their ideas in front of people even those ideas are all great and true, and could be newest ideas exist in the world. Sometimes Lao young people are too
afraid to ask questions, they then are caused by many problems, for instance, unable to understand the lesson, and unable to understand their parents, some of them then become drug takers. In my opinion, the best way to solve this problem is to start with warm up family. Parents should be the good mould for their children, and treat them to be brave. This problem will not be solve in two or three days, it is the very long-term goal that all of us need to achieve, don't we?

8)  If you can have three wishes for this year, what are those wishes and why?

If I can have three wishes for this year, the very first thing is I will wish to turn back times and fix every mistake I had done in the past because it always annoyed me whenever I face the similar situation. Secondly, I will wish to have the first wish forever ;-) and I think I don't have to use my third wish.

9)  Do you have any plan for your future? What do you want to be? And who are the models for your life?

Surely, my plan for the future is to graduate my most favorite course ・civil engineering, and work with the government or any oganisation. I also plan to have a little warm family and that's enough.

10) We just welcome new LaoPYs to our SSEAYP family 2004, do you have some words for them.

Wow, it a great opportunity for me to say some words for our new members of our SSEAYP family. First of all, new LaoPYs, I would like to say that you are the luckiest people in this year because you got the greatest chance to join SSEAYP. I know that you all are so great and wonderful. You all are beautiful and handsome with some special talents that others never have. Finally, I hope our new members go back and read what I mentioned about SSEAYP above and think critically about it. Thank you very much +_+

Thank you very much Pick for being our PY of June. We wish you good luck for your coming year in Australia and keep in touch with us.
