The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe Movie Transcript
Act I – The Blitz
Scene opens with warplanes dropping bombs on London. Edmund is at the window.
Mrs Pevensie (rushing in): Edmund! Get away from there! Peter!
Peter dashes in, grabs Edmund.
Mrs Pevensie: What do you think you’re doing? Peter, quickly, the shelter! Now!
Peter (pulls Edmund): Come on!
Scene cuts to Lucy, in her bed.
Lucy: Mommy!
Susan rushes in.
Susan: Lucy, come on!
Susan gets Lucy out. There’s screaming and shouts of "Hurry" as the 5 of them make for the shelter outside the house. Suddenly, Edmund turns back.
Edmund (dashes back into the house): Wait! Dad!
Peter: Ed!
Peter tries to grab hold of him, but fails.
Mrs Pevensie: Edmund! No!
Peter: I’ll get him!
Mrs Pevensie: Peter, come back!
Peter dashes after Edmund. In the house, Edmund runs towards their father’s photo.
Bombs explode.
Peter: Edmund! Come back! Come on, you idiot! Run! Get down! (a bomb explodes nearby, the boys are thrown to the floor.)
Mrs Pevensie: Come on!! Hurry! (drags Edmund, who makes a grab for the photo)
Peter pushes Edmund into the shelter.
Peter: Why can’t you get a hold over yourself? You’re so selfish. You could have got us killed!
Mrs Pevensie (holding Edmund): Stop it!
Peter: Why can’t you just do as you’re told!
Peter shuts the shelter door.
Act II – Evacuating London
Scene shows the train station, where mothers are saying goodbyes to their children.
Mrs Pevensie (attaching a tag to Lucy): Are you warm enough?
Lucy nods.
Mrs Pevensie: Good Girl.
She turns to Edmund. He is looking at a housing evacuees poster.
Edmund (unhappy): If dad was here, he wouldn’t make us go.
Peter: If dad was here, it would mean the war was over and we wouldn’t have to go.
Edmund sulks.
Mrs Pevensie (hugs and plants a kiss on his head): You will listen to your brother, won’t you Edmund?
Edmund continues sulking.
Mrs Pevensie (turns and hugs Peter): Look after the others.
Peter: I will mum.
Mrs Pevensie (turns and hugs Susan): Be a big girl.
Train Conductor calls for people to get on board.
Mrs Pevensie: Alright, off you go!
The four children head for the train, with Susan in front, followed by Edmund, then Peter, pulling Lucy.
Edmund (to Susan): Let go of me! I know how to get onto a train by myself!
Lucy looks back, reluctant to leave.
Peter (tries to comfort her): We’ve got to stick together now. Everything going to be alright. It’s going to be alright.
The ticket conductor asks for their tickets. Susan turns to Peter. Peter is distracted, looking at a soldier.
Susan (to Peter): Tickets!
They get into the train.
The train starts to pull out. They find a window and stick their heads out. We see Peter, Susan and Lucy waving.
Mrs Pevensie: Bye bye dears!
Edmund manages to squeeze his head through the window.
Children: Bye! We’ll miss you…
The 4 of them wave and the train pulls out of the station. The children find a carriage with 2 other children inside. Peter wanted to help Edmund put his luggage up but Edmund puts it up himself.
We see the train moving in the countryside as the title appears.
Edmund sits in a corner of the carriage while the train enters a tunnel and the screen introduces the director.
Train stops at Goosey Station and we see the 2 other children in the same carriage leave the platform with the people housing them.
Train pulls out of station again and we see Peter lying on one side of the carriage. Susan holding Lucy on the other side and Edmund sitting in a corner. The cast, producer, etc are introduced.
The train passes and we see them on a small platform called "Coombe Halt"
They hear a car and run down the steps. It hoots as it passes the train crossing.
Susan: The professor knew we were coming.
Edmund (looks at his tag): Perhaps we’ve been incorrectly labeled.
A horse runs up the hill, driven by a stern lady and pulling along an open-air carriage.
Mrs McCready: At halt….halt.
They stop in front of the children.
Peter (looks up): Mrs McCready?
Mrs McCready: I’m afraid so. Is this it then? Haven’t you brought anything else?
Peter: No mdm. It’s just us.
Lucy shakes her head
Mrs McCready: Small favours.
She gestures to them to get on.
As the horse runs up a hill, we see the professor’s house.
Act III – In the professor’s house
Mrs McCready: Professor Kirke is not accustomed to having children in his house. And as such, there are a few rules you must follow. There shall be no shouting, or running. No improper use of the dumb waiter.
Susan reaches out to touch a statue.
Mrs McCready: No touching of the historical artifacts!
Susan stops, Edmund and Peter look at each other and grin.
Mrs McCready: And above all, there shall be no disturbing of the professor.
They follow her up the stairs.
Lucy stops outside the professor’s door and runs when she hears a sound from inside.
In the bedroom. Peter is at the window listening to the radio.
Radio: German aircraft carried out another raid on Great Britain last night. The raids lasted a few hours…
Susan turns it off and signals to Peter about Lucy. Peter goes over to her.
Lucy: Sheets feel scratchy.
Susan: The war’s won’t last forever Lucy. We’ll be home soon.
Edmund: Yeah, if home’s still there.
Susan: Isn’t it time you were in bed?
Edmund: Yes, mum.
Peter: Ed!
Edmund sulks.
Peter (to Lucy): You saw outside. This place is huge. We can do whatever we want here! Tomorrow’s going to be great! Really.
Next day, raining outside.
Susan: Gastrovascular
Susan: Come on Peter, gastrovascular.
Peter(bored): Is it Latin?
Susan: Yes.
Edmund: Is it Latin for worst game ever invented?
Peter laughs, Susan shuts the book.
Lucy: We could play hide and seek.
Peter: But we’re already having so much fun…
Susan makes a face.
Lucy: Come on Peter please…pretty please?
Peter: 1, 2, 3….
Edmund: What…
Susan, Edmund and Lucy run off to hide.
Susan finds a chest and hides inside it.
Edmund and Lucy see the same hiding place behind a curtain.
Edmund(rushes there): I was here first.
Lucy makes a face and runs off. She tries other places before opening the door that leads to the room with the wardrobe.
Act IV – Into the Wardrobe
Lucy walks slowly towards the wardrobe, which is covered with a large cloth. A fly buzzes in the room. She pulls at the cloth and it comes down, revealing the wardrobe. Peter is still counting…76, 77, 78, 79…She opens the door and 3 moth balls fall out. She steps inside and leaves the door a little ajar and faces the opening so she could see the door of the room. She takes a few steps backwards and is pricked by a snow covered pine tree. She turns around, and sees the snow and trees. She turns back again and checks that the wardrobe door is still ajar and then takes a few steps into the country. She scans the surroundings and walks around until she sees a lighted lamppost.
She hears a sound and again and we see someone holding an umbrella, then a pair of goat’s legs and then she and the person sees each other at the same time. Lucy screams and hides behind the lamppost. The person yells too and hides behind a tree, dropping some parcels he was carrying.
Slowly, Lucy creeps out and walks towards him, picking up a brown parcel.
Mr. Tumnus (pointing his umbrella at the parcels): Ahh…Err…(points his umbrella at the parcels)
Lucy (handling him the parcel): Were you hiding from me?
Mr. Tumnus (picking up 2 bottles he dropped): No…no…I was just…I…I didn’t want to scare you.
Lucy laughs. They stare at each other.
Lucy: If you don’t mind me asking, what are you?
Mr. Tumnus: Well, I’m a faun. And what about you? You must be some kind of beardless dwarf.
Lucy: I’m not a dwarf. I’m a girl. (bends to pick up another parcel) And actually, I’m tallest in my class.
Mr. Tumnus (stunned): You mean to say, you’re a daughter of Eve.
Lucy: My mum’s name is Helen…
Mr. Tumnus: Yes, but you are in fact, human.
Lucy: Yes, of course.
Mr. Tumnus: What are you doing here?
Lucy: Well, I was hiding in the wardrobe, in the spare room…
Mr. Tumnus: Spare Oom? Is that in Narnia?
Lucy: Narnia? What’s that?
Mr. Tumnus: Well dear, you’re in it. Everything from the lamppost all the way to castle Cair Paravel on the Eastern Ocean, every stick and stone you see, every icicle, is Narnia.
Lucy: What an awfully big Wardrobe…
Mr. Tumnus: I’m sorry, please allow me to introduce myself, my name is Tumnus.
Lucy(extends her hand): Please to meet you, Mr. Tumnus. I’m Lucy Pevensie.
Mr. Tumnus looks at the outstretched hand, not knowing what to do.
Lucy: Oh, you shake it.
Mr. Tumnus: Why?
Lucy(frowns): I…I don’t know…People do it when they meet each other.
Mr. Tumnus holds the hand and shakes it (literally). Lucy swings her hand.
Mr. Tumnus: Well then, Lucy Pevensie, from the shinning city of Wardrobe, in the wondrous land of Spare Oom, how would it be, (opens his umbrella) if you came and had tea with me?
Lucy: Thank you very much but I…I probably should be getting back.
Mr. Tumnus: Oh it’s just round the corner. There’ll be a glorious fire and toast and tea and cake and perhaps, we might even break into the sardines.
Lucy: I don’t know…
Mr. Tumnus: Come on! It’s not everyday that I get to make a new friend.
Lucy: I suppose I could come for a little while…if you have sardines.
Mr. Tumnus: About a bucket load.
They walk to Mr. Tumnus’s house. Lucy sees a door in the snow covered hill.
Mr. Tumnus: Here we are, come on!
Lucy: May I help you with that? (takes some of his parcels)
She enters the house. Mr. Tumnus looks around the surroundings before entering his home too.
Inside, he shakes his legs to get rid of the snow.
Lucy puts down the parcels and picks up a photo.
Mr. Tumnus: Now that…that is my father.
Lucy: He has a nice face. He looks a lot like you.
Mr. Tumnus: No, I’m not very much like him at all really.
Lucy: My father’s fighting in a war.
Mr. Tumnus: My father went away to war too. But that’s a long long time ago…before this dreadful winter.
Lucy(looking at some books, with titles like "Is man a myth?"): Winter’s not all that bad. There’s ice skating and snow ball fights…oh and Christmas.
Mr. Tumnus: Not here. No. We haven’t had a Christmas in a hundred years.
Lucy: What? No presents for a hundred years?
He pours some tea for her and they sit by the fireplace.
Mr. Tumnus: Always winter and never Christmas. It’s been a long winter. You would have love Narnia in Summer. We fauns dance with the Dryads all night and you know, we never got tired. And the music…oh such music…would you like to hear some now?
Lucy: Yes please.
Mr. Tumnus(taking out a flute from a box): Now, are you familiar with any Narnian Lullabies?
Lucy: Sorry, no.
Mr. Tumnus: That’s good. Because this…probably won’t sound anything like one.
He starts playing a lullaby and Lucy turns and looks at the fireplace. A horse appears in the fire and gallops in a circle. Lucy is stunned and looks at Mr. Tumnus. Mr. Tumnus nods back. Lucy looks at the fireplace again and sees 2 horses this time, and as the music progress, there’s now figures dancing in the fire. Slowly, she falls asleep and drops her cup and saucer.
Mr. Tumnus plays until a lion roars in the fire and the fire and candles goes out.
Lucy wakes up and notices it is dark outside.
Lucy: Oh I should go.
Mr. Tumnus: It’s too late for that. I’m such a terrible faun.
Lucy: Oh no…You’re the nicest faun I’ve ever met.
Mr. Tumnus: Then I’m afraid you have a very poor sampling. (starts to cry)
Lucy: You couldn’t have done anything that bad.
Mr. Tumnus: It’s not something I have done, Lucy Pevensie. It’s something I’m doing.
Lucy: What are you doing?
Mr. Tumnus: I’m kidnapping you. It’s the white witch. She’s the one who makes it always winter, always cold. She gave orders, that if anyone was to see a human wandering about in the woods, we’re supposed to turn them over to her.
Lucy(shocked): But Mr. Tumnus you wouldn’t. (then realizes he’s really kidnapping her) I thought you’re my friend.
Mr. Tumnus suddenly realizes he can’t do it.
He pulls her along as they run back to the lamppost.
Mr. Tumnus: Now, she may already know you’re here. The woods are full of her spies. Even some of the trees are on her side.
They reach the lamppost.
Mr. Tumnus: Can you find your way back from here?
Lucy: I think so… Will you be alright?
Mr. Tumnus starts to cry.
Lucy: Hey…
Mr. Tumnus: I’m sorry…I’m so sorry… Here... (gives her handkerchief back)
Lucy: Keep it. You need it more than I do.
Mr. Tumnus: No matter what happens, Lucy Pevensie, I am glad to have met you. You have made me feel warmer than I’ve felt in a hundred years. Now go...go.
Lucy turns and runs back to the wardrobe. She comes out of the wardrobe.
Peter: 98, 99, 100…ready or not, I’m coming!
Lucy: It’s alright! I’m back! I’m alright! She reaches Edmund’s hiding place.
Edmund(sticking his head out): Shut up, he’s coming!
Peter appears and Edmund gets out of his hiding place.
Peter: I’m not sure you two have quite got the idea of this game.
Lucy(bewildered): Weren’t you wondering where I was?
Edmund: That’s the point. That’s why he was seeking you.
Susan (appears): Does this mean I win?
Peter: I don’t think Lucy wants to play anymore.
Lucy: I’ve been gone for hours…
They search the wardrobe. Susan pushes away the coats and sees the back of the wardrobe. She knocks it a few times and Edmund knocks it from behind.
Susan: The only wood in here is the back of the wardrobe.
Peter: One game at a time, Lu, we don’t all have your imagination.
Lucy: But I wasn’t imagining.
Susan: That’s enough, Lucy.
Lucy: I wouldn’t lie about this.
Edmund: Well I believe you.
Lucy: You do?
Edmund: Yeah of course. Didn’t I tell you about the football fields in the bathroom cupboard…
Peter: Oh will you just stop, just make everything worse, don’t you.
Edmund: It’s just a joke.
Peter: When are you going to learn to grow up?
Edmund: Shut up! You think you’re dad, but you’re not! (runs out of the room)
Susan: Well that was nicely handled. (goes out of the room)
Lucy: But…it really was there…
Peter: Susan’s right Lucy. That’s enough. (he leaves the room)
Disappointed, Lucy closes the wardrobe door. Scene fades to black.
Act V – Edmund meets the white witch
Lucy is in bed, thinking about the wardrobe. She gets up, puts on her boots and carrying a candle, walks out of the room.
Edmund comes out of the bathroom and seeing Lucy, decides to follow her.
Lucy goes into the spare room and walks towards the wardrobe. She opens the door and the candle goes out. She enters the wardrobe and leaves the door slightly ajar. Just then, Edmund walks into the spare room.
Edmund: Lucy…(no answer) Where are you?
He goes to the wardrobe door.
Edmund (opening the door): Boo! (no answer)
Edmund looks back at the spare room door and goes into the wardrobe, shutting the door behind him.
Edmund: Lucy…hope you’re not afraid of the dark…Lucy…Lucy?
He searches for her in the wardrobe and suddenly falls onto snow.
Edmund (looks around and gets up): Lucy…Where are you? Lucy…I think I believe you now.
He walks around and comes to the lamppost. He walks further into the woods, looking for Lucy.
He hears the sound of bells ringing and a sleigh appears, drawn by 6 reindeers. It drives past him and stops. A dwarf looks out and Edmund, on seeing the dwarf, runs. The dwarf chases him and uses his whip to trip him up. He puts a dagger at Edmund’s throat.
Edmund: Leave me alone!
Witch: What is it now, Ginarrbrik?
Edmund: Make him let me go! I didn’t do anything wrong.
Dwarf: How dare you address the Queen of Narnia?
Edmund: I didn’t know!
Dwarf: You’ll know better…(raises the dagger to strike him).
Edmund closes his eyes.
Witch: Wait!
She emerges from her sleigh and looks at Edmund. Edmund stares at her.
Witch: What is your name, Son of Adam?
Edmund: Edmund.
Witch: And how, Edmund, did you come to enter my dominion?
Edmund: I’m not sure. I was just following my sister.
Witch: Your sister? How many are you?
Edmund: Four. Lucy’s the only one who’s been here before. She said she met some faun, called Tumnus. Peter and Susan didn’t believe her, and I didn’t either…
Witch: Edmund, you looked so cold. Will you come sit with me?
Edmund goes and sits beside her in her sleigh and she uses her fur coat to keep him warm.
Witch: Now, how about something hot to drink?
Edmund: Yes please, your majesty.
The witch drops a tiny drop of green liquid onto the snow and a cup of hot cocoa begins to take shape.
Dwarf (taking the cup): Your drink, Sire.
Edmund: How did you do that?
Witch: I can make anything you like.
Edmund (drinking the cocoa): Can you make me taller?
Witch (laughs): Anything you like to eat.
Edmund: Turkish Delight?
Once again the witch drops a tiny drop of the green liquid and the Turkish delight begins to take shape. She takes the cup from Edmund and hands it to the dwarf, who hands Edmund the Turkish Delight. The dwarf takes the cup and throws it at a tree where it turns back into snow.
Edmund starts to eat the Turkish delight.
Witch: Edmund, I would very much like to meet your brother and sisters.
Edmund: Why? They’re nothing special.
Witch: Oh I’m sure they’re nothing nearly as delightful as you are. You see Edmund, I have no children of my own and you’re exactly the boy where I could see one day, becoming prince of Narnia, maybe even King.
Edmund: Really?
Witch: Of course you have to bring your brother and sisters here.
Edmund: You mean Peter will be King too?
Witch: No…no…but a king needs servants…
Edmund: I guess I could bring them.
The witch takes the Turkish delight from him and passes it to the dwarf who sneaks a piece.
Witch: Beyond these woods you see those two hills? My house is right between them. You’ll love it there Edmund. It has a whole room simply stuffed of Turkish delight.
Edmund (getting off the sleigh): Couldn’t I have some more now?
Witch: NO! Don’t want to ruin your appetite. Besides, you and I are going to be seeing each other very soon, aren’t we.
Edmund: I hope so, your majesty.
Witch: Until then, dear one, hmm…I’m going to miss you.
The sleigh moves off and Edmund stares at its trail.
Lucy: Edmund? Oh Edmund, (hugs him) you got in too! Isn’t it wonderful?
Edmund (pushes her away): Where have you been?
Lucy: With Mr. Tumnus. He’s fine. The white witch hasn’t found out anything about him meeting me.
Edmund: The White Witch?
Lucy: She calls herself the Queen of Narnia but she really isn’t. Are you alright? You look awful.
Edmund: What do you expect? I mean, it’s freezing. How do we get out of here?
Lucy: Come, this way.
She leads him back to the wardrobe.
Act VI – Peter and Susan talk to Professor Kirke
Lucy (switches on the light and jumps on Peter’s bed): Peter, Peter, wake up! It’s really there!
Peter: What are you talking about?
Lucy: Narnia, it’s all in the wardrobe like I told you.
Susan (comes in): You’ve been dreaming, Lucy.
Lucy: But I haven’t. I saw Mr. Tumnus again…and this time, Edmund went too!
Peter (to Edmund): You…you saw the faun?
Edmund shakes his head.
Lucy: Well, he didn’t actually go there with me. What were you doing Edmund?
Edmund: I was just…playing along. I’m sorry Peter, I shouldn’t have encouraged her. But you know what little children are like these days, they just don’t know when to stop pretending.
Lucy begins to cry. She runs out of the room.
Susan runs after her. Peter gives Edmund a shove and runs after Lucy too.
Lucy runs right into Professor Kirke, with Peter and Susan right behind. Mrs McCready comes along muttering something about getting the children to sleep in the stables.
Mrs McCready: Professor, I am sorry. I told them you were not to be disturbed.
Professor: It’s alright Mrs. McCready. I’m sure there’s an explanation. But first of all, I think this one (meaning Lucy) s in need of a little hot chocolate.
Mrs McCready: Come along dear.
Peter and Susan turn to leave but the Professor stops them with an "Ahem.."
They go into the Professor’s study.
Professor: You seem to have upset the delicate internal balance of my housekeeper.
Peter: I’m sorry sir, it won’t happen again.
Peter tries to get Susan to leave but she decides to tell the professor about Lucy.
Susan: It’s our sister Sir, Lucy.
Professor: The weeping girl.
Susan: She’s upset.
Professor: Hence the weeping.
Peter: It’s nothing. Look, we can handle it.
Peter tries to get Susan to leave again, but fails.
Professor: I can see that.
Susan: She thinks she has found a magical land……in the upstairs wardrobe.
Professor (looks up, stunned): What did you say?
Peter: Um..the wardrobe upstairs. Lucy thinks she has found a forest inside. (They sit on the couch)
Susan: She won’t stop going on about it.
Professor: What was it like?
Susan: Like talking to a lunatic…
Professor: No…no…not her, the forest!
Peter: You don’t mean you believe her?
Professor: Don’t you?
Susan: But logically, it’s impossible!
Professor: What do they teach in schools these days…
Peter: Edmund said they were only playing…
Professor: And he’s usually the more truthful one is he?
Peter: No…this would be the first time.
Professor: Well, if she’s not mad and she’s not lying, then logically, we must assume she’s telling the truth.
Peter: You’re saying we should just believe her?
Professor: She’s your sister right? You’re a family. You might as well start acting like one.
Act VII – Into the wardrobe again
A sunny day, Lucy’s reading a book by herself and the other 3 are playing baseball.
Peter: Peter winds up, poor Ed takes yet another wicket! (throws the ball at Edmund and it hits him)
Edmund: Ow!
Peter (laughing): Whoops! Wake up, dollidaydream.
Susan picks up the ball and throws it back to Peter.
Edmund: Why can’t we play hide and seek again? (Lucy turns away)
Peter: I thought you said it was a kid’s game.
Susan: Besides, we could all use the fresh air.
Edmund: It’s not like there isn’t air inside.
Peter: Are you ready?
Edmund: Are you!
Peter throws the ball and Edmund hits it, sending it flying to the stain glass window. It makes a hole in the window and hits something inside. Lucy looks up gleefully. They run to the room and see a broken suit of armor on the floor.
Peter: Well done Ed.
Edmund: You bowled it!
They hear footsteps and Mrs McCready’s voice.
Susan: The McCready!
Peter: Come on!
They run and try to find a hiding place. The footsteps gets louder and nearer. They come to the room with the wardrobe and open the door. They get inside the room and 3 of them stare at the wardrobe while Edmund opens the wardrobe door.
Edmund: Come on!
Susan: You’ve got to be joking.
They hear footsteps outside the door and have no choice but to enter the wardrobe. They get inside and Peter holds the door slightly ajar.
Peter: Get back!
There’s some pushing and stepping on each other’s toes as we hear "Ouch, get off!", "You’re stepping on my foot!"..etc
One by one, they step backwards until Peter and Susan felt branches behind them. They turn and realized they have stepped into the magical land.
Susan: Impossible!
Lucy: Don’t worry. I’m sure it’s just your imagination.
Peter (to Lucy): I don’t suppose, saying we’re sorry would quite cover it.
Lucy: No, it wouldn’t. But that might! (throws a snowball, hitting Peter in the face)
Peter retaliates by throwing a snowball at her, hitting her in the face. They play with the snow while Edmund stands alone, thinking about the white witch. Susan hits Edmund with a snowball.
Edmund (crossly): Ow! Stop it!
Peter: You little liar.
Edmund: You didn’t believe her either!
Peter: Apologize to Lucy!
Edmund says nothing.
Peter: Say you’re sorry!
Edmund: Alright! I’m sorry!
Lucy: That’s alright. Some little children just don’t know when to stop pretending.
Edmund: Very funny…
Susan: Maybe we should go back.
Edmund: Shouldn’t we at least take a look around?
Peter: I think, Lucy should decide.
Lucy (delighted): I thought you want to meet Mr. Tumnus.
Peter: Well then, Mr. Tumnus it is then.
Peter goes back into the wardrobe to get some coats.
Susan: But we can’t go hiking in the snow, dressed like this.
Peter (comes out with 4 coats): No, but I’m sure the professor won’t mind us using these. Anyway, (to Susan) if you think about it logically, we won’t even be taking them out of the wardrobe.
He hands a coat to Edmund.
Edmund: But that’s a girl’s coat.
Peter: I know.
They walk to Mr. Tumnus’s house. Edmund looks funny in the big grey coat. Peter plays in the snow and they enjoy the scenery.
Act VIII – From Western Wood to Beaversdam
Lucy: ……there’s tea and lots and lots of……(stops when she sees the broken door of his house)
Peter: Lu?
Lucy runs towards the house.
Peter: Lucy!
They all run after her.
The house is in a mess, there’s broken furniture, broken glass. Mr. Tumnus is nowhere. Edmund steps on some glass and he looks down to see the photo of Mr. Tumnus’s father.
Lucy: Who would do something like this?
Peter tears down a notice on the wall.
Peter (reads the notice): Faun Tumnus, is hereby charged with high treason, against her imperial majesty, Jadis, Queen of Narnia for comforting her enemy and fraternizing with humans. Signed Maugrim, Captain of the Secret Police. Long live the Queen.
Susan: Alright. Now we really should go back.
Lucy: But what about Mr. Tumnus?
Susan: If he was arrested just for being with a human, there’s nothing much we can do.
Lucy: You don’t understand, do you? I’m the human. She must have found out he helped me.
Edmund looks away.
Peter: Maybe we can call the police.
Susan (referring to the notice): These are the police.
Peter (to Lucy): Don’t worry Lucy, we’ll think of something.
Edmund: Why? I mean, he’s a criminal.
Bird outside house: Psssst…
Susan: Did that bird just "Psssst" us?
They go outside the house and look around. They hear a sound. There’s something moving. Peter, Susan and Lucy stand close together. Edmund stands by himself. A beaver appears.
Lucy: It’s a beaver.
Peter: Here boy…tsk..tsk..tsk…here boy…(holds out his hand).
The beaver looks at it for a moment.
Beaver: Well I ain gonna smell it if that’s what you want.
Everyone is taken aback.
Peter: Sorry…
Beaver: Lucy Pevensie.
Lucy (steps forward): Yes?
Beaver holds out her handkerchief.
Lucy: That’s the hanky I gave to Mr…
Beaver: Tumnus. He got it away just before they took him.
Lucy: Is he alright?
Beaver: Further in!
Lucy and Peter turn to follow him but is stopped by Susan.
Susan: What are you doing?
Edmund: She’s right. How do we know we can trust him?
Peter: He said he knows the Faun.
Susan: He’s a beaver. He shouldn’t be saying anything!
Beaver: Is there a problem?
Peter: We were just talking.
Beaver: Better left for safer course.
They follow the Beaver as he leads them to his house.
Beaver: Come on, we don’t want to be caught out here after nightfall.
They reach the house of the beavers, the dam.
Beaver: Ah blimey! Looks like the old girl’s got the kettle up, nice cup of rosy tea!
Lucy: What a nice place.
Beaver: Merely a trifle. Still plenty to do, ain quite finished it yet.
Mrs. Beaver (appearing from the house): Beaver, is that you? I’ve been worried sick! If I find you’ve been out with Badger again, I’ll….Oh (sees the children)…those aren’t badgers. Oh I never thought I’d lived to see this day.
Mrs. Beaver (to Mr. Beaver): Look at my fur. You couldn’t give me 10 minutes warning.
Beaver: I would have given you a week if I thought it would helped. (laughs)
Mrs. Beaver: Come inside! And we’ll see if we can get you some food and some civilized company.
Beaver laughs and points at Mrs. Beaver.
Act IX – Edmund’s Betrayal
Inside the house
Mrs. Beaver: ……Beaver doesn’t like to do housekeeping???
Beaver notices Edmund staring at 2 hills.
Beaver: Enjoying the scenery, are we?
Edmund shakes his head and goes into the house.
Peter: Isn’t there anything we can do to help Tumnus?
Beaver: He’s been taken to the witch’s castle. And you know when I say there’s few who’s been through those gates that come out again.
Mrs. Beaver (puts a plate in front of Lucy): Fish and Chips…but there’s hope dear…lots of hope.
Beaver: Yeah! There’s blimey more than hope. Aslan is on the move…
Edmund: Who’s Aslan?
Beaver (laughs): hahaha…who’s Aslan…you cheeky little…
Mrs. Beaver realizes that they don’t know and nudges Beaver.
Beaver: What? You don’t know, do you?
Peter: Well, we haven’t exactly been here very long.
Beaver: Why, he’s only the king of the whole woods. The top geyser. The real king of Narnia.
Mrs. Beaver: He’s been away for a long while.
Beaver: But he’s just got back. And he’s waiting for you at the stone table!
Lucy: He’s waiting for us?
Beaver: You’re blimey joking. They don’t even know about the prophecy.
Mrs. Beaver: Well, then…
Beaver: Look. Aslan’s return. Tumnus arrest. The secret police. It’s all happening because of you!
Susan: You’re blaming us?
Mrs. Beaver: No, not blaming, thanking you.
Beaver (nods): There’s a prophecy. When Adam’s flesh and Adam’s bone, sits at Cair Paravel in throne, the evil time will be over and done.
Susan: You know, that doesn’t really rhyme.
Beaver: I know, but you’re kind of missing the point!
Mrs. Beaver: It has long been foretold that 2 sons of Adam and 2 daughters of Eve will defeat the white witch and restore peace to Narnia.
Peter: And you think we’re the ones?
Beaver: Well, you better be, coz Aslan already gathering your army.
Lucy: Our army?
Susan: Mum sent us away so we wouldn’t get caught up in the war.
Peter: I think you have made a mistake. We’re not heroes.
Susan: We’re from Finchley.
The beavers look at each other, not understanding.
Susan: Thank you for your hospitality, but we really have to go.
Beaver: But you can’t just leave.
Lucy: He’s right. We got to help Mr. Tumnus.
Peter: Lucy, it’s out of our hands. I’m sorry but its time the 4 of us were getting home. Ed…Ed?
Peter and Susan look around and the front door is open and Edmund is nowhere.
Peter: I’m going to kill him…
Beaver: You might not have to. Has Edmund ever been to Narnia before?
Scene cuts to Edmund. He’s walking in the snow, without his coat, towards the witch’s castle.
Peter: Hurry!
Peter, Susan, Lucy and Beaver give chase. They stop atop a hill overlooking the witch’s castle and see Edmund about to walk through the doors.
Lucy: Edmund!
Beaver: Shhhh! They’ll hear you!
Peter tries to run after him but Beaver pulls him back.
Beaver: NO!
Peter: Get off me!
Beaver: You’re playing into her hands.
Susan: We can’t just let him go!
Lucy: He’s our brother!
Beaver: He’s the bait! She wants all four of you!
Peter: Why?
Beaver: To stop the prophecy from coming true! To kill you!
They turn and look towards the castle where Edmund has already gone in and the doors close.
Susan (to Peter): This is all your fault.
Peter: My fault?
Susan: None of this would have happened if you would listen to me in the first place!
Peter: So you knew this would happen?
Susan: I didn’t know what would happen, which is why we should have left while we still could!
Lucy: Stop it! This isn’t going to help Edmund.
Beaver: She’s right. Only Aslan can help your brother now.
Peter: Then take us to him.
Scene cuts to Edmund in the castle courtyard. There are stone statues all around. He sees a stone giant. He steps on some charcoal and picks one up and draws spectacles and a moustache on the face of a stone dog. He walks over what he thinks is a log and it springs up, bringing him to the ground.
Maugrim: Be still stranger or you’ll never move again. Who are you?
Edmund: I’m Edmund. I met the witch in the woods. She told me to come back here. I’m a son of Adam.
Maugrim: My apologies, fortunate favourite of the Queen, or else, not so fortunate.
He leads Edmund inside the castle.
Maugrim: Right this way…
Edmund climbs a flight of icy stairs.
They come to the throne.
Maugrim: Wait here.
Maugrim goes inside.
Edmund looks at the empty throne and walks up to it. He sits in it. The white witch and Ginarrbrik comes in.
Witch: Like it?
Edmund: Yes…your majesty.
Witch: I thought you might.
Edmund gets out of the throne and steps down. The witch sits on the throne.
Witch: Tell me, Edmund. Are your sisters deaf?
Edmund: No…
Witch: And your brother…is he unintelligent?
Edmund: Well I think so, but mum says…
Witch (raises her voice): Then how dare you come alone!
Edmund: I tried…
Witch: Even I asked so little of you…
Edmund: They just don’t listen to me…
Witch: Couldn’t even do a small thing…
Edmund: I did bring them halfway. They’re in the house at the dam, with the beavers.
Witch: Well…I suppose you are not a total loss then.
Edmund: I was wondering, could I maybe have some more Turkish delight now?
Witch (to Ginarrbrik): Our guest is hungry…
Ginarrbrik: This way, for your mum mums…(holds a dagger behind Edmund’s back)
Witch: Maugrim!
The wolf comes in.
Witch: You know what to do.
Maugrim howls. More wolves appear. Edmund sees them and is stunned. The wolves race out of the castle.
Act X – Escape from Beaversdam
Scene cuts to Beaversdam.
Beaver (to Mrs. Beaver): Hurry mother, they’re after us!
Mrs. Beaver: Oh. Right then. (starts packing)
Peter: What’s she doing?
Beaver put a hand to his forehead.
Mrs. Beaver: You’ll be thanking me later. It’s a long journey and Beaver gets pretty cranky when he is hungry.
Beaver: I’m cranky now!
Maugrim (outside the house): Take them!
The wolves race towards the house.
Susan (looks at what Mrs. Beaver is packing): Do you think we’ll need jam?
Peter: Only if the witch loves toast!
The wolves tear apart the dam.
Maugrim: Hurry!
They get into the house but there’s no one inside. One of the wolves open a door to reveal a tunnel.
In the tunnel.
Beaver: Badger and I made this. It comes up quite near his place.
Mrs. Beaver: You told me it led to your mum’s!
They run and Lucy trips and falls. They hear noises in the tunnel.
Lucy: They’re in the tunnel!
Beaver: Quick!
Peter: Run!
They come to a dead end.
Mrs. Beaver: You should have brought a map!
Beaver: There wasn’t room, next to the jam!
He scrambles out of an opening. The rest follow. Peter and Beaver roll a barrel over the hole. Lucy falls over a pile of stone animals.
They look around and see stone animals. Beaver walks up to one of them.
Mrs. Beaver: I’m so sorry dear…
Beaver: He was my best mate.
Peter: What happened here?
Fox: This is what becomes of those who cross the witch.
Beaver: You take one more step traitor and I’ll chew you into strips!
Fox: Relax, I’m one of the good guys…
Beaver: Yeah? You look an awful lot like one of the bad guys.
Fox: An unfortunate family resemblance. We can argue breeding later. Right now, we got to move.
Peter: What do you have in mind?
The fox smiles…
The barrel is pushed away and the wolves run out, surrounding the fox.
Fox: Greetings, gents. Lost something have we?
Maugrim: Don’t patronize me! I know where your allegiance lies. We’re looking for some humans.
The children and beavers are up in the trees.
Fox: Humans? Here in Narnia? Well that’s a valuable piece of information don’t you think?
A wolf bites the fox in the neck. Peter covers Lucy’s mouth and Mrs. Beaver does the same to Beaver.
Maugrim: Your reward is your life, it’s not much, but still…where are the fugitives?
Fox: North…they ran north…
Maugrim: Smell them out!
The wolf tosses the fox on the ground and it faints.
A fire is lit and the party surrounds the fire.
Fox: They were helping Tumnus. The witch got here before I did. Ouch…
Lucy: Are you alright?
Fox: I wish I could say their bark was worse than their bite. Ow!
Mrs. Beaver: Oh stop squirming. You’re worse than Beaver on bath day.
Beaver: Worst day of the year.
The children smile.
Fox: Well thank you for coming but I’m afraid that’s all the healing I have time for.
Lucy: You’re leaving?
Fox: It’s been a pleasure my Queen and an honour, but time is short and Aslan himself has asked me to gather more troops.
Beaver: You’ve seen Aslan?
Mrs. Beaver: What’s he like?
Fox: He’s like everything we have ever hoped. You’ll be glad to have him on your side in the battle against the witch.
Susan: But we’re not planned on fighting any witch.
Fox: But surely, King Peter, the prophecy…
Beaver: We can’t go to war without you.
Peter (tosses a stick): We just want our brother back.
Act XI – The chase
Scene shows a cell. Edmund’s feet is chained. He takes a bite out of the stale bread and chokes on it. He tries to drink some water but it has turned to ice. He throws the cup down.
Mr. Tumnus (in the next cell): If you’re not going to eat that…
Edmund passes him the bread.
Mr. Tumnus: I’d get up, but my legs…
Edmund (recognizing his feet): Mr. Tumnus?
Mr. Tumnus: What’s left of him.
He realizes Edmund is familiar.
Mr. Tumnus: You’re Lucy Pevensie’s brother?
Edmund: I’m Edmund.
Mr. Tumnus: You have the same nose.
Edmund rubs his nose.
Mr. Tumnus: Is your sister alright? Is she safe?
Edmund (hears sounds of wolves): I don’t know.
The jail door opens and the white witch walks in, with her general.
Witch: My police tore that dam apart. Your little family, are nowhere to be found.
The witch pulls Edmund up.
Witch: Where did they go?
Edmund: I don’t know!
Witch: Then you have no further use to me.
The witch raises her wand to strike him.
Edmund: Wait! The beaver said something about Aslan.
Witch: Aslan? Where?
Before Edmund can answer, Mr. Tumnus interrupts.
Mr. Tumnus: He’s a stranger here your majesty, he can’t be expected to know anything.
The general strikes him in the head.
Witch (to Edmund): I said, where is Aslan?
Edmund: I…I don’t know. I left before they said anything. I wanted to see you.
Witch: Guard! (A guard walks in) Release the faun.
The guard breaks open the cuffs on the faun’s legs and brings Mr. Tumnus to her.
Witch (to Mr. Tumnus): Do you know why you are here, Faun?
Mr. Tumnus: Because I believe in a free Narnia.
Witch: You are here, because he (points at Edmund) turned you in…for sweeties.
Mr. Tumnus looks at Edmund and Edmund looks down.
Witch (to guard): Take him (faun) upstairs. And ready my sleigh. Edmund misses his family.
Scene cuts to the children and beavers atop a cliff, overlooking a frozen river.
Beaver: Aslan’s camp is near the stone table, just across the frozen river.
Peter: River?
Mrs. Beaver: Oh, the river’s been frozen solid for a hundred years.
Peter: It’s so far…
Mrs. Beaver: It’s the world dear…did you expect it to be small?
Susan (to Peter): Smaller.
Back at the witch’s castle. Ginarrbrik leads Edmund out. Edmund sees the stone statue of Mr. Tumnus.
Witch: When you’re ready, son of Adam.
Edmund gets on the floor of the sleigh and they ride out of the castle, the witch’s face cold and stern.
The others are walking across the frozen river.
Beaver: Come on humans, while we’re still young.
Peter (piggy backs Lucy): If he tells us to hurry one more time, I’m going to turn him into a big fluffy hat!
Beaver: Hurry up! Come on!
Lucy: He is getting a little bossy.
Mrs. Beaver: Look behind you! It’s her!
Peter (lets Lucy down): Run!
They run as a sleigh comes behind them. They reach the forest and get into a small hiding place.
The sleigh stops and someone gets down. They see a shadow. Snow falls off the edge of the hiding place. Then silence.
Lucy: Maybe she’s gone.
Peter: I suppose I’ll go look.
Beaver: No, you’re worth nothing to Narnia dead.
Mrs. Beaver: But neither are you, Beaver.
Beaver: Thanks sweetheart.
He holds Mrs. Beaver for a moment before leaping out.
Act XII – Father Christmas
Some suspense and Beaver pops his head down the hiding place, causing Lucy to scream.
Beaver: Come here! I hope you’ve all been good coz there’s someone here to see you!
They climb out of the hiding place and see Father Christmas and his sleigh.
Lucy: Merry Christmas Sir.
Father Christmas: It certainly is, Lucy, since you have arrived.
Susan (to Peter): Look, I’ve been enduring a lot since we got here, but this…
Peter (interrupts): We thought you were the witch.
Father Christmas: Sorry about that. But in my defense, I’ve been driving one of these longer than the witch.
Susan: I thought there was no Christmas in Narnia.
Father Christmas: No. For a long time. But the hope that you have brought your majesties, has finally started to weaken the witch’s power. Still, I suppose you could do with these.
He carries a huge sack out of his sleigh.
Lucy (goes forward): Presents!
Father Christmas reaches into his sack and takes out a bottle.
Father Christmas (to Lucy): The juice of the fire flower. One drop, will cure any injury. And though I hope you never have to use it (hands Lucy a dagger).
Lucy: Thank you Sir, but I think I could be brave enough.
Father Christmas (laughs): I’m sure you could. But battles are ugly affairs.
Lucy steps back.
Father Christmas takes a bow and arrows out of his sack.
Father Christmas: Susan, trust in this bow and it will not easily miss.
Susan: What happened to battles are ugly affairs?
Father Christmas (laughs): Though you don’t seem to have a problem making yourself heard, blow on this and wherever you are, help will come.
Susan: Thanks.
Father Christmas: Peter, the time to use these will be near at hand. (hands Peter a shield and a sword).
Peter takes the sword out of its shaft.
Peter: Thank you Sir.
Father Christmas: These are tools, not toys. Bear them well and wisely. Now I must be off. Winter is almost over and things do pile up when you’ve been gone a hundred years! Long live Aslan!
He gets into his sleigh.
Father Christmas: And Merry Christmas!
They wave goodbyes…
Lucy (to Susan): Told you he was real.
Peter: He said winter…was almost over. You know what that means. No more ice!
The ice over the river is breaking up.
Peter: We need to cross, now!
Lucy: Don’t beavers make dams?
Beaver: Oh, not so fast dear…come on!
Susan: Wait! Can we just think over this for a minute!
Peter: We don’t have a minute!
Susan: Just trying to be realistic.
Peter: No, you are trying to be smart, as usual.
Peter leads Lucy down towards the river. Susan, hearing the wolves call, hurries after them. Then wolves have found the hiding place.
Act XIII – Across the river
Peter tests the ice. It cracks and water shoots up. He hastily steps back.
Beaver: Wait. Maybe I should go first.
Peter: Maybe you should.
Beaver goes first, testing the ice with his tail. The ice cracks under him.
Mrs. Beaver: You’ve been sneaking second helpings, haven’t you?
Beaver: Well, you never know which meal gonna be your last, especially when you’re cooking.
They follow Beaver across the river. The ice cracks beneath them. Lucy screams.
Susan: If mum knew what we were doing…
Peter (annoyed): Mum’s not here!
Lucy sees the wolves running on top of the waterfall.
Lucy: Oh no!
Peter: Run!
The wolves run down to the ice, surrounding them from the back and in front. Beaver makes a threat and one of the wolves gets him under.
Mrs. Beaver: No!
Lucy: Peter!
Peter draws his sword and points it at the wolves.
Maugrim: Put that down boy, someone could get hurt. Leave now while you can and your brother leaves with you.
Peter still holds the sword.
Susan: Stop, Peter, maybe we should listen to him!
Maugrim: Smart girl.
Beaver: Don’t listen to him. Kill it now!
Maugrim: This is not your battle. All my queen wants is for you to take your family and go.
Susan: Look, just because someobody in a red coat hands you a sword, it doesn’t make you a hero. Just drop it!
Beaver: No! Peter, cut him while you still have the chance!
Maugrim: Well, what’s it going to be? I won’t wait forever, and neither will the river.
Lucy looks up and sees the ice on the waterfall cracking.
Lucy: Peter!
Peter looks up and realizes the waterfall is going to come crashing down on them.
Peter: Hold on to me!
He thrusts the sword deep into the ice below.
The ice on the waterfall breaks up and the water comes crashing down.
The girls scream and they all get submerged under water.
We see the river, with pieces of ice moving. Then Peter’s sword emerges, with him holding on to it and the girls holding on to him.
Lucy slips and Peter pulls her up and struggles to hold on to the sword. The beavers help to push the ice platform to the riverbank. The wolves are nowhere to be seen.
Mr. Beaver (shakes off the water): Lovely…
Peter gives a shocked look at Susan and we see he is holding on to Lucy’s coat.
Susan: What have you done? Lucy! Lucy!
They look at the river but they can’t see Lucy anywhere. After a while…
Lucy (appears just a little way off): Has anyone seen my coat?
Everyone is relieved. Peter puts her coat on her.
Mr. Beaver: Don’t you worry dear, your brother’s got you well looked after.
Mrs. Beaver: And I don’t think you’ll be needing those coats anymore.
We see ice melting and flowers blooming…they leave their coats on the branches.
Scene cuts to the white witch, looking at the waterfall.
Ginarrbrik (pulling his coat): It’s so warm out…
The white witch looks at him and he pulls it back.
Ginarrbrik: I’ll go and check the sleigh.
Maugrim: Your Majesty, we found the traitor. (throws the fox down) He was rounding your enemies in the neighboring woods.
Witch: Ah! How nice of you to drop in. You were rather helpful to my wolves last night. Perhaps you could help me now.
Fox: Forgive me, your majesty.
Witch: Oh don’t waste my time with flattery.
Fox: Not to seem rude, but I wasn’t actually talking to you.
The white witch realizes he means Edmund. She points her wand at the fox.
Witch: Where are the humans headed?
The fox remains silent.
The witch raises her wand…
Edmund: Wait! No! Don’t! Beaver said something about the stone table. Said Aslan had an army there!
Witch: An army?
She looks at the fox who shakes his head in disappointment at Edmund.
Witch: Thank you Edmund. I’m glad this creature got to see some honesty before he dies!
She turns the fox into stone.
Edmund: NO!
She hits Edmund.
Witch: Think about whose side you’re on, Edmund. Mine…or theirs! (Turns his face to the stone fox)
Witch (to Maugrim): Go, gather the faithful. If it’s a war Aslan wants, (she points her wand at a butterfly and it turns into stone) it’s a war he shall get!
Edmund looks at the stone fox, with tears in his eyes.
Act XIV – Aslan’s Camp
A centaur stands on a hill, blowing a horn.
They walk into Aslan’s camp. Lucy waves at a Dryad. As they pass, everyone looks at them, some following them.
Susan: Why are they staring at us?
Lucy: Maybe they think you look funny.
Peter laughs. Mrs. Beaver tries to tidy her fur.
Beaver: Quit, stop your fussing, you look lovely.
They come to the main tent, where head centaur, Oreius stands.
Peter draws his sword and raises it in salute.
Peter: We have come to see Aslan.
The crowd whispers. Oreius nods towards the tent. Everyone kneels.
Aslan, the great lion emerges from the tent.
Aslan: Welcome, Peter, Son of Adam. Welcome Susan and Lucy, Daughters of Eve. And welcome to you beavers, you have my thanks. But where is the fourth?
Peter: That’s why we’re here Sir. We need your help. (Puts his sword back)
Susan: We had a little trouble along the way.
Peter: Our brother been captured by the white witch.
Aslan: Captured? How could this happen?
They remain silent.
Beaver: He betrayed them, your majesty.
Oreius: Then he has betrayed us all.
Aslan: Peace, Oreius, I’m sure there’s an explanation.
Peter: It’s my fault really. I was too hard on him
Susan (puts her hand on Peter’s shoulder): We all were.
Lucy: Sir, he’s our brother.
Aslan: I know, dear one. But that only makes the betrayal all the worse. This may be harder than you think.
Aslan and Peter are on a hill, overlooking the camp. Peter is wearing Narnian clothes.
Aslan: That is Cair Paravel, the castle with the 4 thrones, one of which, you will sit Peter as high King.
Peter looks down.
Aslan: You doubt the prophecy?
Peter: No. It’s just this. Aslan, I’m not who you think I am.
Aslan: Peter Pevensie, formally from Finchley. Beaver also mentioned that you planned on turning him into a hat.
Peter smiles.
Aslan: Peter, there is a deep magic more powerful than any of us that rules over Narnia. It defines right from wrong and governs all our destinies, yours and mine.
Peter: I can’t even protect my own family.
Aslan: You’ve brought them safely this far.
Peter: Not all of them.
Aslan: Peter, I will do what I can to help your brother. But I need you to consider what I ask of you. I too want my family safe.
Scene shows the woods, Edmund is gagged and bound to a tree. Ginarrbrik is taunting him.
Ginarrbrik: Is our little prince uncomfortable? Does he want his pillow fluff? Special treatment for the special boy! Isn’t that what you wanted?
Act XV – Peter’s first battle/Knighting of Peter
Susan and Lucy are at the river. They are wearing Narnian clothes.
Lucy: You look like mum.
Susan: Mum hasn’t dressed like this since before the war.
Lucy: We should bring her one back. A whole trunk full!
Susan: If we ever get back…
Lucy’s face falls.
Susan: I’m sorry I’m like that. We used to have fun together, didn’t we?
Lucy: Yes…before you got boring.
Susan: Oh really?
Susan splashes water on Lucy and Lucy retaliates by splashing more back on her. Susan takes a towel to dry herself and reveals a wolf behind it. They scream.
Maugrim: Please don’t try to run. We’re tired and we prefer to kill you quickly.
Lucy sees another wolf. Susan sees the horn and throws the towel at the wolves.
Peter hears the horn sound.
Peter: Susan!
The girls are in the tree and a wolf is snapping at Susan’s heels.
Peter (draws his sword): Get back!
He points his sword at the wolves.
Maugrim: Come on! We’re already been through this before. We both know you haven’t got it in you.
Susan: Peter, watch out!
Aslan comes and holds one of the wolves under his paw.
Oreius draws his sword, ready to strike but Aslan stops him.
Aslan: No. Lay your weapons. This is Peter’s battle.
Peter continues to focus on Maugrim.
Maugrim: You may think you’re a king, but you’re going to die, like a dog!
Maugrim leaps at Peter. They both fall to the ground.
The girls: Peter!
They get down from the tree. Susan pushes Maugrim, who is dead, off Peter. Peter is stunned.
He hugs Susan and Lucy.
Aslan releases the other wolf and he runs off.
Aslan (to Oreius): After him! He’ll lead you to Edmund.
Oreius and the other warriors chase the wolf.
Aslan: Peter, clean your sword.
Peter sticks his sword in the grass and kneels.
Aslan: Rise, Sir Peter Wolf’s Bane, Knight of Narnia.
Scene cuts to the witch’s camp. The wolf runs in, chased by Oreius and his warriors.
The general is discussing battle plans with the witch.
General: The minotaurs will take the left flanks. We’ll keep the giants in reserves and send the dwarfs in first…
They hear the commotion.
General: The prisoner! Oreius and warriors surround Ginarribrik and Edmund…
They go out and take a look. All is silent. Instead of Edmund, Ginarrbrik is bound in his place. Edmund has been rescued.
The witch cuts Ginarribrik’s bonds and the dwarf falls to the ground.
Ginarribrik: You’re not going to kill me?
Witch: Not yet.
Witch (turns to her general): We have work to do.
Aslan’s camp.
Peter walks out of his tent. Oreius, seeing him, looks towards Aslan. Aslan is speaking to Edmund. Susan and Lucy come out of their tent.
Lucy: Edmund!
Peter stops her from running to him. Edmund nods to Aslan and walks towards them. Aslan follows behind.
Aslan: What’s done is done. There is no need to speak to Edmund about what is past.
He walks away.
Edmund: Hello…
Lucy hugs him, followed by Susan.
Susan: Are you alright?
Edmund: I’m a little tired.
Peter (does not hug him): Get some sleep.
Edmund starts to walk away.
Peter: And Edmund…(smiles) try not to wander off.
Edmund give a smile.
Act XVI – The White Witch visits.
They are having breakfast.
Lucy (to Edmund): Narnia’s not going to run out of toast, Ed.
Peter: I’m sure you could pack some of that for the journey home.
Susan: We’re going home?
Peter: You are. I promised mum I’ll keep you 3 safe. But that doesn’t mean I can’t stay behind and help.
Lucy: They need us, all 4 of us.
Peter: Lucy, it’s too dangerous. You almost drowned. Edmund was almost killed.
Edmund: Which is why we have to stay. I’ve seen what the white witch can do and I’ve helped her do it. We can’t leave these people behind to suffer for it.
Peter smiles at him. Lucy puts her hand over his. Susan does not look happy.
Susan: I suppose that’s it then.
She gets up and takes her bow and arrow and horn.
Peter: Where are you going?
Susan (smiles): To get in some practice.
At the Archery field.
Susan takes aim at the board. She shoots and the arrow lands just to the left of the bull’s eye. Lucy, beside her, is impressed and takes out her dagger with a playful look. She throws the dagger and it lands right in the bull’s eye.
Peter and Edmund are holding swords, riding on horseback. Peter is riding bareback while Edmund is using a saddle. Peter is showing Edmund how to hold his sword.
Peter: Sword pointed up, like how the centaur Oreius does.
They cross swords for a while before Beaver comes running up. Edmund’s horse almost steps on Beaver. It jumps up.
Edmund (to his horse): Woah…Horsey.
The horse (turns around): My name…is Felipe.
Edmund: Sorry…
Beaver: Your majesties, the white witch has demanded a meeting with Aslan. She’s on her way here.
Ginarribrik: Jadis, the Queen of Narnia, Empress of the Lone Islands…
The Queen’s procession enters, the Queen in her chair, carried by her warriors.
Witch (to Aslan): You have a traitor in your midst, Aslan.
The people look at Edmund.
Aslan: His offense was not against you.
Witch: Have you forgotten the laws upon which Narnia was built?
Aslan (angry): Do not cite the deep magic to me witch, I was there when it was written.
Witch: Then you’ll remember well, that every traitor belongs to me. His blood is my property.
The crowd whispers.
Peter (draws his sword): Try and take him then!
Witch (to Peter): Do you really think that mere force will deny me my right, little king? Aslan knows that unless I have blood, all of Narnia will overturn and perish in fire and water. That boy (points to Edmund) will die on the stone table, as in tradition. You dare not refuse me.
Aslan: Enough. I shall speak with you alone.
He walks into the tent, followed by the witch.
The children sit on the grass, waiting. The witch steps out of the tent, followed by Aslan. Everyone stands, waiting for the news.
Aslan: She has renounced her claim on the Son of Adam’s blood.
The crowd cheered. Edmund hugs Lucy.
Witch: How do I know your promise will be kept?
Aslan roars and the witch sits in her chair and leaves.
The crowd cheers again but Lucy notices Aslan looks sad.
Act XVII – The Sacrifice
Nightfall.
Lucy tosses and turns in her bed. She sees Aslan walking past the tent.
Lucy: Susan!
Susan wakes up. Lucy takes her gifts and cloak and goes out of the tent. Susan follows.
They see Aslan going into the woods and follow him secretly.
Aslan: Shouldn’t you both be in bed?
They come out from behind a tree.
Lucy: We couldn’t sleep.
Susan: Please, Aslan, couldn’t we come with you?
Aslan: I would be glad of company for a while. Thank you.
They hold his mane and continue the journey.
Aslan: It is time. From here, I must go on alone.
Susan: But Aslan…
Aslan: You have to trust me for this must be done. Thank you Susan.Thank you Lucy, and Farewell.
Susan and Lucy hide behind rocks and watch him.
He walks to the stone table, where the white witch and her army is waiting. The white witch is holding a knife. He walks up the steps and the crowd jeers at him.
Witch: Behold, the great lion.
Crowd jeers.
The witch nods at her general and he strikes Aslan with his weapon. Aslan falls to the ground.
Ginarrbrik: Here Kitty, do you want some milk?
Lucy and Susan are stunned.
Lucy: Why doesn’t he fight back?
Witch: Bind him!
They tie him up.
Witch: Wait! Let him first be shaved!
Ginarrbrik takes a knife and cuts off part of his mane and throws it in the air. Others step over him and begin to shave him.
Witch: Bring him to me!
They drag him up the stone table. The ceremony begins.
She bends over him.
Witch: You know Aslan, I’m a little disappointed in you. Do you honestly think that by sacrificing yourself, you could save the human traitor? You have given me your life and saving no one. Ha…so much for love…
Witch (shouts): Tonight, the deep magic will be appeased. But tomorrow, we will take Narnia, forever!
Witch (to Aslan): In that knowledge, despair, and die!
She strikes the knife into Aslan. Aslan dies. Lucy and Susan cries.
Witch (shouts): The great cat is dead!
Crowd cheers.
Witch: General, prepare the army for battle…however short it may be.
Stone table. Silence. The Witch and her army have left. Aslan is lying there.
Susan and Lucy runs up.
Lucy takes out her cordial.
Susan: It’s too late. He’s gone. He must have known what he was doing.
They hold him and cry.
They hear noises and look up to see mice on the ropes.
Susan: Get away, get away all of you.
Lucy: No, look!
The mice are chewing at the ropes and the bonds break. They remove the ropes.
Susan: We have to tell the others.
Lucy: We can’t just leave him.
Susan: Lucy there’s no time. They need to know.
Lucy (looks up): The trees.
Act XVIII – The Battle
Leaves fly in the direction of the camp. They fly into Peter’s tent. Peter wakes up and draws his sword. Edmund wakes too. The leaves form the shape of a dryad.
Dryad: Be still my princes. I bring grave news from your sisters.
Dawn. At camp. Peter walks out of his tent.
Peter (to Edmund and Oreius): She’s right. He’s gone.
Edmund (to Peter): Then you’ll have to lead us. Peter, there’s an army out there, and it’s ready to follow you.
Peter: I can’t.
Edmund: Aslan believed you could…and so do I.
Peter looks at his brother.
Oreius: The witch’s army is nearing, Sire. What are your orders?
Peter looks at the map of Narnia. Scene moves to the battlefield, where Peter, dressed in armor on a white horse, with shield and sword is next to Oreius. Behind them, Peter’s army forms. Edmund, Beaver, also in armor and others are on the hill, waiting. An eagle soars over the battlefield and reports news of the enemy.
Eagle: They come, your highness, with numbers and weapons far greater than our own!
Oreius: Numbers do not win a battle.
Peter: No, but I bet they help.
Over at the witch’s side, her sleigh is now drawn by 2 polar bears. The general leads the army and they form the battle line. Peter’s army see the force of her army.
Peter takes a deep breath, looks back at Edmund, who nods at him. He draws his sword. The horn is blown and his army cheers.
Witch: I have no interest in prisoners. Kill them all.
The general signals for the army to charge.
Peter watches as the witch’s army charges forward. He waves his sword and Edmund gives the signal for the eagles to go forward. The eagle beside Peter takes off, with many others, holding rocks with their claws.
General: Look to the skies!
The eagles fly overhead and drop rocks on the enemy. The dwarfs use their bow and arrows and some eagles are shot down. They continue to charge.
Peter (to Oreius): Are you with me?
Oreius: To the death.
Peter (shouts): For Narnia, and for Aslan!
He charges forward together with Oreius. The army follows behind them.
The two armies charge towards each other. Peter’s frontline, made up of centaurs, lower their spears as they advance. Oreius draws his twin swords.
The two armies clash and the battle begins.
Act XIX – Aslan comes back to life.
After a while, the scene cuts back to the girls.
Susan: We should go.
Lucy: I’m so cold.
Susan takes Lucy’s hand and they walk down the steps. They hear a thunderous crack.
Lucy: Susan!
They look at the stone table. It has cracked and Aslan’s body is no longer there.
Lucy: Where’s Aslan?
Susan: What have they done?
A light shines on their faces and they see Aslan emerging from the light, alive and well.
Girls: Aslan!
Aslan laughs. They run and hug him.
Susan: But we saw the knife, the witch.
Aslan: If the witch knew the true meaning of sacrifice, she might have interpreted the deep magic differently. That when a willing victim who has committed no treachery is killed in a traitor’s stead, the stone table will crack and even death itself, will turn backwards.
Susan: We sent the news that you were dead. Peter and Edmund would have gone to war.
Lucy (draws her dagger): We have to help them.
Aslan (lowers Lucy’s raised dagger): We will, dear one. Climb on my back. We have far to go and little time to get there and you might want to cover your ears. (roars)
Back at the battlefield. The white witch moves forwards in her sleigh. Edmund gives the command to fire. A warrior shoots an arrow, which turns into an eagle and it bursts into flames across the enemy lines, stopping them in their tracks. Peter’s army cheers, but not for long as the witch dispersed the fire with her wand.
Peter realizes it’s no good. He orders the army to retreat.
Peter: Fall back! Lure them to the rocks!
Beaver: There’s the signal! Come on!
Meanwhile, Aslan gallops over the hills towards the witch’s castle.
Susan: Where are we going?
Aslan: Hang on!
Peter’s army retreats to the rocks where Edmund commands the troops on the hill to shoot. Scores of arrows line the sky towards the enemy.
Ginarrbrik, on a hill takes aim and shoots at Peter. The arrow hits his horse. Peter falls and his helmet comes off. Oreius realizes Peter is in danger and together with a rhino, charge towards the enemy.
Peter: STOP!
They continue charging towards the witch. The rhino injures some of the enemy before getting tripped. Oreius jumps over it and makes for the general. He takes him on and pushes 2 swords into the general’s back. The general falls. He then charges at the witch. The witch dodges his attack and uses her wand to strike him.
Scene cuts to the witch’s castle courtyard. Lucy runs in and sees the stone statue of Mr. Tumnus and cries in Susan’s arms. Aslan comes in and breathes onto Mr. Tumnus. Slowly, Mr. Tumnus returns back to life. Lucy holds him and introduces him to Susan. Aslan returns with other creatures that have been de-stoned.
Aslan: Hurry! We must search the castle. Peter will need everyone we can get!
Return to the battlefield. The witch has turned Orieus into stone. Two eagles charge at her and she waves her sword and wand, slicing the wing of one and turning the other into stone, where it crashes into the cliff and crumbles into dust. Peter shields himself from the dust and looks in horror as the witch continues turning his army into stone. He realizes that the enemy is too strong.
Peter (to Edmund): Edmund! They’re too many! Get out of here! Get the girls and get them home!
Beaver, hearing him, drags Edmund away from the battle.
Beaver (to Edmund): You heard him, come on!
Edmund looks at the witch and realizes it is her wand that is doing most of the damage. He makes up his mind on what to do and draws his sword.
Beaver (to Edmund): Peter said get out of here!
Edmund: Peter’s not king yet.
He runs back down the hill and makes for the witch. The witch turns some more creatures into stone and moves towards Peter, who’s having trouble with a minotaur. Edmund jumps in front of the witch but she dodges. She moves her wand towards him and he turns and strikes the wand hard with his sword. The wand breaks. The witch, furious, stabs Edmund with the broken wand. Edmund falls to the ground. Peter sees this and courage comes over him. He stabs the minotaur and charges towards the witch, who picks up another sword. Another minotaur gets into Peter’s path and he slashes it away. He faces the witch and they duel. The witch fends off Peter’s attack with her twin swords. Peter falls to the ground but picks himself up for another attack. The witch stabs at Peter’s neck but he dodges and continues to hack away at her. Just then, Aslan arrives on the scene. He roars at the top of the hill.
Witch: Impossible!
Peter too is stunned as he sees Aslan, Susan and Lucy with more troops behind them. Aslan races down the hill, in rescue of Peter.
The witch hits out at Peter. She has the upper hand as she trips Peter up and stabs him in the right arm. She stabs again and he uses his shield to block. The shield flies off his arm and he finds himself at her mercy. She raises her sword to stab him. Aslan jumps at the witch, bringing her to the ground. She looks at him for a moment before he opens his jaws. Peter pulls the sword out of his right arm and gets up, ready to fight again. Troops fly past him as he looks at Aslan.
Aslan (to Peter): It is finished.
Girls: Peter!
Lucy rushes forwards to hug him while Susan realizes something is wrong.
Susan: Where’s Edmund?
They search for him. He is breathing deeply, holding his wound. Ginarrbrik, holding an axe is getting near Edmund.
Susan (arrow in bow): Edmund!
She shoots the dwarf who falls to the ground.
They run over to him. Lucy takes out her cordial and gives Edmund one drop. Edmund starts to breathe normally and he slowly opens his eyes. He’s fine.
Peter hugs him.
Peter (to Edmund): When are you going to learn to do as you’re told?
The four children hug each other.
They see Aslan breathing life into the stone statues. Lucy looks at him and takes her cordial and goes to help the wounded.
Act XX – The coronation
Mer-people jump out of the eastern sea. We see castle Cair Paravel. Horns sound as Aslan walks down the hall with the four of them for the coronation ceremony. Susan and Lucy on his right, Edmund and Peter on his left.
Aslan: To the glistering eastern sea, I give you Queen Lucy, the valiant.
The crowd cheers. The beavers hold 2 trays with 4 crowns and Mr. Tumnus puts a silver crown on Lucy.
Aslan: To the great western wood, King Edmund, the just.
Mr. Tumnus puts a silver crown on Edmund.
Aslan: To the radiant southern sun, Queen Susan, the gentle.
Mr. Tumnus puts a gold crown on Susan.
Aslan: And to the clear northern sky, I give you King Peter, the magnificent.
Mr. Tumnus puts a gold crown on Peter.
Aslan: Once a king or queen of Narnia, always a king or queen. May your wisdom grace us until the stars rain down from the heavens. Long live King Peter! Long live King Edmund! Long live Queen Susan! Long live Queen Lucy!
The crowd cheers. There’s Oreius, the beavers, Mr. Tumnus, the fox and also the dog which Edmund had drawn the moustache and spectacles.
In the midst of the celebration, Aslan leaves. Lucy runs out and sees him walking down the beach.
Mr. Tumnus: Don’t worry, we’ll see him again.
Lucy: When?
Mr. Tumnus: In time. One day he’ll be here and the next he won’t. But you mustn’t press him, after all, he’s not a tame lion.
Lucy: No, but he is good.
Mr. Tumnus (takes out her handkerchief): Here, you need it more than I do.
She takes the hanky, looks back at the beach and he’s gone. Lucy looks at Mr. Tumnus, with tears in her eyes.
Act XXI – Back into the wardrobe
A few years pass. The children are now youths. One day, they gallop into the woods, chasing after a white stag. Edmund’s horse slows down.
Edmund (to his horse): You alright, Felipe?
Horse: Not as young as I once was.
Susan rides up: Come on Ed!
Edmund: Just catching my breath.
Susan: Well, let’s all catch it at this rate.
Lucy and Peter ride up.
Lucy: What did he say again Susan?
Susan: You girls wait in the castle and I’ll catch the stag myself. (laughs)
Lucy laughs too.
Peter notices a lamppost. He dismounts.
Peter: What’s this?
Edmund and the girls dismount.
Edmund: It looks strangely familiar.
Susan: As if from a dream.
Lucy: Or a dream of a dream…Spare Oom…
She runs into the woods.
Peter: Lucy!
Susan: Not again…
They run after her.
Peter: Lu?
Lucy: Come on!
They reach the wardrobe.
Peter: These aren’t branches.
Susan: They’re coats.
Edmund: Ow! Susan, you’re on my foot…
We hear sounds like "move", "don’t push!"…etc
Peter: Let me go first!
The wardrobe door opens and Peter, Edmund, Lucy and Susan emerge, as children again. They look at each other.
The professor opens the door to the room.
Professor: Oh, there you are. What were you all doing in the wardrobe?
Peter: You wouldn’t believe us if we told you sir.
The professor throws the ball that Edmund had hit that morning to Peter.
Peter looks at the ball and at the professor.
Professor: Try me.
Credits roll for a while.
Lucy opens the wardrobe again.
Professor: I don’t think you’ll get back in that way. You see, I’ve already tried.
Lucy (smiles): Will we ever go back?
Professor: Well, I expect so, but it’ll probably happen when you’re not looking for it. Just to be sure, better keep your eyes open.
He holds Lucy’s hand and they walk out of the room. The wardrobe door opens a little and a light emerges from it. We hear a lion’s roar. Scene fades to black.
The rest of the credits roll.
