Julius Jay Smith Lansing, MI, loving father, brother and friend, passed away on April 7, 2006 at the age of 51 from a courageous battle with cancer. Julius was born April 29, 1954 in Lansing, MI to William "W.H." and Eva Field Fisher Smith. He loved and enjoyed life, especially golf, tennis, dancing and traveling and was a very special man who touched the lives of many who knew him. Julius attended Lansing Public Schools and proudly served as Marching Band Drum Major before graduating from J.W. Sexton High School. He attended Lansing Community College and continued on to receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Michigan State University and a Masters in Public Administration from Western Michigan University. He was employed by the Michigan Department of Economic Growth as a Senior Analyst. Mr. Smith was deeply involved in community activities and served on the Board of Directors for the Greater Lansing Urban League, Capitol Area Children's Head-Start, Lansing Human Relations Board, NAACP, and MLK Holiday Commission. He was a member of the Greater Lansing Baha'i community, Michigan BMG and a life member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Harold Smith. |

Surviving are his wife, Patricia Crawford Smith; loving daughter, Stephanie Field Smith; goddaughter, Tracy Thomas of Lakewood, NJ; brothers, Burton (Denyse) Smith and Kenneth Smith, both of Lansing, MI; sisters, Marianne (Changiz) Geula of Malden, MA and Patricia Smith Hopkins of Shaker Heights, OH; sister-in-law, Janet Kincaid Smith of Lansing, MI; several loving nieces and nephews; special friends, Daulton Tansil and Teresa Campbell and numerous other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held Monday April 10, 2006. |
