It is a fact that guns were made to kill people. However we can not blame an inatimate object for the actions of living, concious, responsible people. 95% of guns used in homicides in the United States were guns that were purchased illegally. True, I dont need a machine gun to defend my home and the laws to restrict their purchase is understandable. However the laws that we pass do not stop the illegal sale or purchase of these very weapons which we prevent the every day citizen from buying. It is our constitutional right to own a weapon and it is our responsibility to society to make sure that we handle the weapons responsibly. I dont know of any guns that decide to walk out on their own, aim in at someone, and shoot them.
Gun owners need to make sure that their weapons are locked up and properly secured. I just found out that my father has had 3 rifles, a shotgun, and a 9mm pistol locked up my whole life. I never once saw any of the weapons or even knew he had them. On another personal note my Grandfather's shotgun has saved his life several times. He is 77 and has traveled around the country in his motorhome. He fended off the attacks of 5 gang members at once and led to their arrest and two others while in Las Vegas, just to name a few occurances. If he didnt have a gun he would probably have been dead. It is the people's right to own guns. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. |
