All americans should have the same opportunity to be accepted into the University of their choice regardless of race. However race must not be a factor in the colleges selection process. Student's must earn their acceptance throughhard work, dedication, perseverance, commitment, and intelligence. A student with higher scores should not be rejected because he is not of a minority race. Affirmative action makesmore difficult for every American, regardless of color, to be treated equal and in effect it is reverse racism. Every American has the opportunity to make it on their own and race should not be the dominating factor in their acceptance to college, over character, accomplishments, and values. I believe that history has shown us that conditions for minorities have drastically improved over the years and i also believe that minorities can do alot more than just "make it" on their own, they can be some of the most succesful people in America. So lets stop treating minorities like they are inferior and give them the opportunity to accomplish their goals on their own. Look at Colin Powell, Condoleeza Rice, Frederick Douglass, Martin Luther King, Connie Chung, Sec. Mineta, and Michael Jordan. |
