![]() Once upon a time there was a little girl name Shaunagh. She went to live with her Grandpa when she was just little. Her Grandpa raised her and loved her and showed her how to be an honest, decent person...and when she grew up and had children of her own, she passed on his values to them. Her Grandpa was a good man, who worked hard, and believed in the best of everybody. He proudly watched her walk across the stage at her graduation, and then a few years later proudly walked her down the aisle on her wedding day. Her Grandpa took great pride in his great-grandchildren - he had three of them, Skyler, Tristen & Lauryn, and they adored the ground he walked on. When her Grandpa got older, his health started to deteriorate, but through it all remained a proud, strong Irishman. On Valentine's Day in 2003, he was admitted into the hospital with many heart, lung, & kidney problems that were beginning to take their toll on his body. Shaunagh would faithfully go the hospital each day to shave his face, rub his back, and hold his hands. They would talk and he told her how proud he was of her. He said that she was the best thing that had ever happened to him, and that it must have been by the grace of God that she was sent to him. On the day of February 22, the nurses at the hospital said that maybe they should move him to the Palliative Care room, because it would be more comfortable for him and the family. The 3 great-grandchildren came to see their Papa and kissed him and told him they loved him. That night, with his health failing, Shaunagh reluctantly left to go home to her children. She gently kissed his face and told him that she loved him, and that she'd be back in the morning. At 5:25am, her Mom phoned to say that he hadn't slept all night and was rather restless, and that maybe if she came, then he would be able to sleep. With panic in her heart...Shaunagh left for the hospital right away. She sat on his bed and rubbed his legs, and told her Grandpa that she was there, and that it was okay to go to sleep now. Shaunagh's Mom held one hand, and her Grandma held the other, and Shaunagh spoke to her Mother for a moment about the events of the night. When she looked back, he was gone. He had waited for her...and now she will wait a lifetime for him.
