Learn French

Learn French

1.Start by taking a class. You can do this at your local community college, adult education center, or a more specialized school.

2.Join the Alliance franaise, an organization devoted to promoting French throughout the world. You'll meet other francophones of all levels. Guaranteed to help you learn French and have fun.

3.Work on the basic vocabulary, pronunciation, grammar, and verb lessons in my special French for Beginners section.

4.Invest in some language tapes or CDs and listen to spoken French every day. The more you listen, the easier it will be for you to acquire that lovely French accent.

5.Listen to French radio - even though it will be difficult to understand, it will help you get used to the rhythms of French speech.

6.Likewise, watch French movies. While reading the English subtitles, your mind will unconsciously work on decoding the French - well, that's what my high school teacher told me, anyway. :-)

7.Practice speaking as much as possible. Use the French for Beginners forum to ask questions and exchange messages with other French speakers.

8.Find a pen pal to practice with. Drop in the chat room - you can just watch the conversation or participate. All levels are welcome. If at all possible, spend some time in a francophone country - that is the absolute best way to learn.

Tips: Practice every day - even if it's only a little bit. Don't be afraid to make mistakes - that is how you learn.
