Ms. Kate Corbett
(Coach)

Ms. Corbett is the Coordinator of Technical Services at the G. Lamar Harrison Library. This is her ninth year at Langston, first as head coach. She enjoys mystery novels, including the works of Sue Grafton, Deborah Crombie, and Martha Grimes. Her musical tastes include the sounds of Andrea Boccelli, Billy Joel, James Taylor, Phil Collins, and Judy Collins. Among her favorite things to do are jewelry-making, knitting& crocheting, playing "Space Invaders", and the joys felt from cutting the grass. In her first year as head coach of the Langston "HCASC" team, she consistently stayed late nights to lead the Lions to their best finish in ten seasons of play. The team unanimously voted her coach of the year again, after a "Sweet Sixteen" finish.

Kyle Gregory
(team captain)

Kyle is from Del City, Oklahoma and joined the team as a Freshman during the 2004-5 campaign. He is serving as Langston's team captain for the fourth straight year, with five years in the program, three attending Nationals. An English major, Spanish minor, Kyle's favorite literature includes authors Ernest Hemingway, Vladimir Nabokov, Richard Wright, and Kurt Vonnegut. His favorite musical artists include Art Tatum, Duke Ellington, Tony!Toni!Tone!, Barry White, Billy Paul, and Keith Sweat. Kyle is one of two students in school history to be a participant in both the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge and the Honda Battle of the Bands (twice). His scoring average jumped from 13.33 points per game his freshman year to 31.43 points per game his junior year. He traveled to Chile to enjoy the summer and study Spanish in 2007. Kyle overcame bronchitis to help lead the team to its highest finish in eleven years, with an appearance in the Sweet Sixteen. Upon graduation, Kyle plans to attend law school.

Edwin Bryant

Bryant is a Senior Criminal Justice major from Missouri City, Texas. Bryant is a retired rapper, who enjoys the literary works of William Golding and the movies �Paid in Full� and �Any Given Sunday.� Bryant, in his first HCASC tournament at Harris-Stowe, scored 55 points in a game against eventual National Champion Tennessee State. In his first year in the program and at Nationals, he achieved an 11.43 points per game average, and over 15 ppg in 2008. At the 2008 NCT, Bryant sealed the win with a huge game against Elizabeth City. Bryant studied in The Gambia in the summer of 2007.

James Harding Jr.

James is a Biology major from Lancaster, Texas. Like Edwin, is a high school football player who turned down offers at other schools and opted to join the academic team. The competitive spirit carried over, as James was the team's second-leading scorer, and highest freshmen scorer since records have been kept. Harding had three game winning buzzes, including the final toss-up to give Langston the win over Mississippi Valley State, sending Langston to the Sweet Sixteen.

Trenton Hughes

Trenton is a graduating Senior Business Administration major from Wichita, Kansas. His breakout performance in the New Orleans Tournament helped Langston come from behind to defeat Mississippi Valley State. With a daily routine of watching Duck Tales and Sportscenter, the team relied on Hughes for every cartoon and sports question. Trent is also rumored to be the last existing fan of rappers like Cam'ron and Fifty Cent, who may be a relative.

Michael Stewart

Mike is a Junior Broadcast Journalism major from Oklahoma City. When Stewart is not writing for the LU Gazette or on the radio for KALU 89.3, he enjoys listening to music including Lil Boosie, Big Tuck, and Mike Jones, but his favorite rapper is the late Tupac Shakur. An avid video game fan, his favorites include Madden, Def Jam games, and the Grand Theft Auto and Final Fantasy series. In his first year at nationals, second year in the program, Stewart achieved a 22.86 points per game average in 2007. He studied in Malaysia in the summer of 2006. Mike is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.

Bryan Lawson
Bryan is a Biology major from Ardmore, Oklahoma. He made his second trip to Nationals in 2007. Bryan enjoys reading Dean Koontz novels in his free time. He is the only other student in school history to march in the Honda Battle of the Bands (twice) and play in the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge. Lawson averaged 16.2 points per game in a tournament at Prairie View. Bryan is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity,Inc. He continues to practice with the team.

Torriente Toliver

Torriente is a Senior English Education major, Spanish minor, from Chicago, Illinois. He served as team captain in 2004. He attended Nationals for three years and practiced with the team for five years. In his time at Langston, he started an official chess club and a Martial Arts club at Langston. Along with starting clubs, Toliver is a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. Toliver has seen his average steadily raise from 7.5 points per game his freshman year to 18.57 points per game his Sophomore year, to 30 points per game his Senior year. Torriente graduated in 2008, with an English Education degree.

Steve Stephens II

Mr. Stephens serves as the Associate Director of Student activites at Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina. Upon his graduation from Dear Langston, he accepted a position at Coppin State University in Baltimore, Maryland as the Coordinator for Retention and Student programming, during this time Steve took his training, experience as Captain, and love for HCASC and created the Honda program at Coppin State University, he also coached the first national team and served as campus coordinator for three years. Mr. Stephens was the promoted to Director of Student Activites at CSU, the youngest Director in the history of the institution. Steve is a active member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc, he also sits on the National Alumni Board of Directors for the Thurgood Marshall College Fund.Along with these activites Mr. Stephens consultant for several businesses and is a noted public speaker. Steve is a proud husband to his wife Nickida and a father of two daughter Kennedi and son Steve Stephens III.

Ricky G. Nicholson Jr.

A native of Dallas, TX, Ricky joined the LU HCASC his sophomore year as an alternate. In this capacity, he scored 65 points; ranking 3rd on his team. Over the next two years, he served as team member and co-captain. In each of those years, Mr. Nicholson scored over 100 points in the National Tournament. In his final year with the LU HCASC team, Ricky was the captain. The 2001 campaign saw Mr. Nicholson amass 210 total points, ranking him in the top 15 individual tournament scoring leaders. With Nicholson, the Lions suffered two heartbreaking losses that prevented Langston from advancing to the Sweet 16 (a buzzer beater & unaccepted answer). Ricky now resides in Houston, TX and is employed as a High School Teacher. He is married to the former Ta Lula Jones (Langston Alum) and has a son; Jaylen. Ricky received a BBA in Organizational Management. He is scheduled to receive his Master's of Science in Education Administration In December 2008. He is also a Life Member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.
