Full-Time Missionaries
Members of The Church of
Jesus Christ of Latter-day
Saints love to
share the Gospel. For this purpose hundreds of young men
and women leave their homes and families every week to become
full-time missionaries. Currently there are approximately
50,000 full-time missionaries serving all over the world.
Young men (between the ages of 19 and 27, but mostly 19-21 years old)
serve for two years; young women (usually 21-24 years old) serve for a
year and a half. Missionaries are not paid for their service nor does
the Church cover their living expenses. Senior couples who's children
have left home are also encouraged to serve one and a half year missions.
When a Church member volunteers to serve as a full-time missionary
he/she is called to work in a certain area (Church members refer to
the area as "A Mission"). Within the area the missionary will work
with a companion in the bounds of certain wards
(congregations). Missionaries change companions and wards every few months,
but normally not missions. Two sets of full-time
missionary companionships normally serve in the Langley Ward.
A important tool in sharing the gospel is the Book of Mormon.
Free copies of the Book of Mormon may be obtained by calling
1-800-528-2225 (local missionaries will deliver the book and
answer any questions you may have).
