“Okay, Dad, We’re leaving now.”

Jason and Ashley were going out to the restaurant that had just opened. It was their one-year anniversary and Jason wanted it to be special. Ashley had no idea where they were going but she was glad to be anywhere with him.

“Jason, don’t forget to put gas in the car! Last time it was empty!” shouted his father from upstairs.

Jason ignored him and led Ashley to the garage. Since he didn’t have his own car, he was forced to use his father’s 1984 Thunderbird. He swore that when he had enough money, he would buy a better car.

Ashley sat quietly in the passenger seat and waited patiently. They gazed into each other’s eyes for a while before taking off. Ashley blushed and looked away as Jason started the car. As they got out, they encountered an obstacle. It was slowly starting to rain.

“Don’t worry, we’re still going to have fun,” said Jason trying to reassure his girlfriend.

The drive was going smoothly until disaster struck. As their car went down the winding road, they saw something. A bright, red car was stopped right in the middle of the road.

Jason’s car was going at 35mph and he couldn’t stop quickly enough to avoid the car. He tried to pass the car by switching to the right lane. Unfortunately, fate was not on their side. The car began to skid on the slippery road. Jason tried to regain control of the vehicle, but he couldn’t. The car smashed right through a fence and started rolling downhill.

Ashley screamed out in terror as the glass shattered around them. She slammed face first on the dashboard. She was immediately knocked unconscious. Meanwhile, Jason met the same fate as he slammed into the steering wheel.

The shocked driver of the red car could only watch helplessly as the tragedy unveiled before his eyes. As the shock wore off, with trembling hands, he dialed 9-1-1 from his car phone.

“911 Emergency. What’s the problem?”

“Help!” screamed the drive. “Some car just fell off the road on MT. Pine Road!”

“Calm down, sir. Please tell me what happened?”

“My car broke down on Mt. Pine Road. The engine just shut off. This blue car came behind me. It tried to pass over my right but the car skidded off the road.”

“The car just fell off the road?”

“Yes. Please hurry. I think they might be hurt.”

“Calm down. I’ll send someone right away. Please remain on the line.”

Meanwhile…

Jason slowly woke up. Blood was oozing down his face from a wound on his forehead. He could barely open his eyes. Ashley let out a painful groan and tried to call out his name.

Jason looked over at her and met with a terrible sight. A jagged piece of glass was embedded in Ashley’s chest. Small shards of glass had cut her face. Jason leaned over and put his arms around her.

“Jason, please hold me. I’m scared,” she moaned.

“I have you. Don’t worry. Someone will come help us,” he said, even though he himself didn’t believe it.

The rain was now pouring down. The paramedics and firefighters were already trying to get to the car. Ashley’s life was slowly slipping away. She had one last request.

“Jason, can I have one last kiss.”

“Yes.”

Jason placed a gentle kiss on her lips. When he pulled away, Ashley’s eyes were already closed. He tried to shake her but it was useless. She was already gone.

“No, Ashley. Please don’t leave me. I love you. Please don’t go,” he sobbed.

“Hey! You alright in there!” shouted one of the medics.

“No,” sighed Jason. “The love of my life is gone.”
