Lane Davies: "I was addicted to work!"

Big Bear. Loneliness. Clean air, a seraph silence. At the lake, there is a man, fishing. Idylls. It is only at second sight that you recognize the fisherman as the manipulative lawyer Mason Capwell. Lane Davies looks completely different. A crude shirt, an old pair of trousers - no suit or tie!

Lane Davies emphasizes: "This is one of the aspects that distinguishes me from Mason Capwell. I only wear suits if it is explicitly required for a role."

The actor relaxes by the fireplace. It has been a long time since he has been seen so calm and balanced. For the past few years, Davies appeared driven. Always on the road, to his next theater project, his small children, the Shakespeare festival, cd recordings - plus ten hours of Santa Barbara a day. Davies brought himself to the edge of exhaustion. A workaholic - addicted to work and appreciation.

"At one point, I realized I had to quit something in order to avoid breaking down."

Lane Davies has decided. Against Santa Barbara.

"I left the party when it was best."

So what does the new life of Lane Davies look like?

Other than his place at Big Bear, he has a ranch in Ventura County, where his wife Holly and his two sons Nathan (1 ½) and Thatcher Lee (3) live. Of course Lane Davies still performs at the theater and has guest appearances on other shows, but: "I'm no longer addicted to work. My kids have put a halt to my zeal. I prefer watching TV with them."

However, Lane is still in touch with most of the former colleagues. "Most of them - except for Todd McKee - have children. So we meet regularly at our kids' birthdays. I also talk to A Martinez on the phone quite frequently."

But every now and then, Lane Davies's new domestic life becomes too close. Then he gets into the car and drives to Big Bear.

"I come here whenever I want to think. I need the rest now and then. A bit of freedom there has to be in every marriage."

Then Lane Davies takes his fishing rod, rambles through the woods for hours, watches the surface of the lake - and enjoys the free time that is now finally his!
