August 3, 2003 - These are a few of the participants from the Ms. Teen Carigara pageant. It was sponsored by the LGU (local government unit) and held as part of the fiesta activities from July 14-16.  Filipinos enjoy beauty pagents and do not seem to have any doubts that it is proper to judge people based on how they look.
The contestants displayed their talents and intelligence and through the night I gained a great appreciation for their poise. They performed though nevrousness and heat and smiled until the finish at 3 am. They had an amazing level of talent and creativity. Its was fun to watch these young girls perform so well.
Did you ever wonder where your porkchop came from? It is quite a sight to see a live animal go from normal life one moment to being eaten the next. Pigs are really noisy when they are killed.
Lechon baboy, pig roasted over a fire, is a fiesta treat in the Philippines. The crispy skin is the favorite of many.

An interesting sign, outside the church in Palo, Leyte.
