October 7, 2005 - School is out for us at SBW, so it is time to relax and enjoy some free time in Saraburi. One of the nicest parts of being in a program like AFS (or the Peace Corps) is the opportunity to live with a host family. It provides a chance to see how a "normal" family lives. Vacation gives me the chance to spend leisure time with my family and relax. Free time for James means playing a lot of Pangya. I had never seen online computer games and the spell it casts on its players. Many of my students play online games |

| like Ragnarok or Panyga. In their blogs, they write that they play games all day. Their schedule is: wake up-play-eat-play-eat-play-sleep! I think online games are very entertaining and that they provide a lot of thinking and skill training for their players. I grew up with Nintendo, so I know that mastering a computer game can really take a lot of thought. You have to solve many puzzles to win in these games. Pangya requires players to cooperate with other gamers and share tips on how to get more hole-in-ones or trophies. | |||||||||||

We also visited some places in our time off. James, Ann, Ann's friend and I took a trip to Chatuchak Market in Bangkok. It is a huge market where you can buy clothing, bags, shoes, pots, books, cats, fish and most anything you could want. My friend Bonnie took a short vacation from work in Singapore to |

She had the chance to meet my host family and experience life in Saraburi. On the weekends, Saraburi has a lively night market selling clothes and delicious foods. Ann helped Bonnie buy some treats called look shua (little candies shaped like fruits). |

| My family took us to a day at the beach at Bang Saen in Chonburi. My family most enjoyed eating the various seafoods available (shrimps, oysters, clams, scallops) and buying food to give to their friends back in Saraburi. That is how a Thai family takes a holiday. |
