| All of my pieces | ||||||||||||||||||
| These ornaments are all one of a kind handmade coil pots. Unlike many coil pots the outer surface of these ornaments is left unsmoothed to maintain the rippled effect. Another trait that sets these pieces apart from many other coil pots is that the coils are all hand rolled one at a time. Many potters will use an extruder for this task to maintain uniformity and to save a lot of time. Hand rolled coils are better for this application because the variance in size and length of each coil gives each piece a more "natural" flowing look. This effect is worth the extra time it takes to achieve. One other way in which these pieces vary from a normal coil pot is that these pieces are not glazed. Color is added by organisms that live in your aquarium. As the piece matures in a tank it will take on a dark green or brown coloring from algae colonizing the piece. This effect makes the pieces look more natural than any glaze could. If you want an even more natural look you can grow things like java moss on, and other plants around and on top of my pieces. I can also build planter cups into the sides of my pieces like I did very basically on the large piece with the plecostomus on it in the in tank pictures. You can also stack rock around and on top of the pieces to provide your fish with a safe hiding spot under all that heavy shifting rock. If you would prefer more color to your piece this can be achieved by using different clays. I have not attempted it yet but I can also blend clays together to create multi-colored pieces. If you see an ornament that you want that has already been sold or placed into a tank then contact me about it. I can't make an exact replica but I can make a similair piece for you. Similairly if you have an idea for a piece that you would like then ask me about it and I will try to tell you whether or not I can make what you want and a rough estimate of what I'd ask for it. You can contact me at [email protected]. Please sign my guestbook I appreciate any feedback. If you want to calculate shipping my zip code 24148. Also the red things in the pictures are called calipers and are spaced 1 inch apart for perspective. |
