Steyr Mannlicher (in Austria) has developed a general-purpose rifle in close cooperation with Col. Jeff Cooper, the spiritual father of this idea, who wanted versatile, all around rifle with light weight, suitable for effective engagement of the targets on medium distances (up to 300-400 meters).

It is based on Steyr's Safe Bolt System action. It is a turnbolt design. Both 5- and 10-round detachable box magazines may be used. The 19 inch hammer forged barrel is fluted to save weight and locks directly into the receiver. The receiver itself extends forward above the barrel to accommodate a telescope sight of intermediate eye relief (Scout type scope) without any contact between scope ring and barrel to affect telescope alignment as the barrel heats. The receiver is also serially slotted to the rear to accommodate night sights or classic target sights if desired. The two-stage military-type trigger is fully adjustable. IT features also high-strenght polymer stock, ajustable for lenght of pull, with integral folding bipods that acted as a part of the forend when folded, spare magazine held in the special bay in the buttstock.

After all, the result is a somewhat futuristic, but excellent, and beautiful weapon with its polished hard anodized aluminium, and mate blue steel parts.
