The abbreviation MSG stands for "Militarisch
Scharfschutzen Gewehr" in German or Military Marksman Rifle in English.
"90" is for the year of initial production. MSG90 was designed as
a cheaper alternative to the well-known PSG-1 rifle. The MSG90 has many of the
same features found on the PSG1, but weighs only 14 pounds, due to the smaller
and lighter buttstock and lighter barrel. It uses the same old G3 action. It
features An extended ambidextrous safety/selector lever, PSG1 trigger mechanism
with crisp three pound trigger pull and adjustable trigger shoe, buttstock with
adjustable length butt plate and vertically adjustable cheekpiece (but it is
much worse than the escellent buttstock and cheekpiece of the PSG), optional
detachable 10X Hensoldt telescopic sight, heavyweight polygonal barrel with
harmonic stabilizer to induce consistent barrel whip for increased
accuracy.
It is in service in a lot of countries.
