More than ten years after the first Galil sniper rifles entered service, the Israeli Military Industries developed a new semi automatic sniper rifle, called 99 Sniper Rifle (SR). It was designed for missions in which stealth and multiple target acquiring are essential.
As a matter of fact, this is not a built from scratch sniper rifle, rather a modified and upgraded Galil. All of its main features are present in 99SR too. It is equipped with the same 508 mm heavy barrel, ensuring accuracy at long ranges, and the same folding stock too. The integral muzzle brake improves rapid fire precision. The 99SR can accommodate various optical devices including both day optics and Night Vision Devices. The defaulty day optice is the Op Nimrod 6X40, same scope that is mounted on the Galil, or it can be fitted with a Leopold M4 day optic too. The firing and safety systems are the same, so is the bipod
The major differences are the lightweighted carbon fiber stock, the rear support leg ( monopod ), pistol grip and an adjustable hand stop on it.
Disadvantages of 99SR are mainly the same as Galil's, the accuracy. It shoots too about 1.5MOA (its direct competitor, the SR-25 fires easily 0.75MOA...) Another problem is the usual problem of almost all semi autos. Mainly because of long, high capacity magazine, the weapon can be fired from an elevated prone firing position, which increases the sniper's exposure chances.

After all, the 99SR is a second generation version of a modified assault rifle. It is not a very accurate SWS, but a good Designated Marksman rifle or spotter weapon.
