The FR F1 was developed from the Model 36 action as a sniper rifle. It features a padded cheek piece, and adjustable buttstock (with spacers). The FR F2 is the upgraded version of F1. It has a diferent buttstock and bipod system. FR F2 has thermal shielded barrel (polymer envelope around the most part of the barrel), and it is chambered to the commonly used 7.62 mm NATO. It has some more minor and general updates too. It also has a flash hider. While production of F! was stopped in 1980 (it started in 1966), the FR F2 is still produced, from 1984 to present days. It is the standard issued sniper rifle of French military.
