Russian call it type 1963 Dragunos system self loading sniper rifle. This was the first rifle designed from scratch for sniping purposes. Military sniper rifles meet the most requirements among all sniper rifles.Good accuracy, quite long range, fast disassembling/repairing on the field, and the most important one : reliability. Almost impossible to design a rifle which meets all those requirements, and still remains ligh weighted. But E. F. Dragunov - who were a sport rifle designer previously - did a great job. I guess I don't have to prove that Russian made weapons are the most reliable ones on the Earth, under any weather circumstances. In some opinions it is not a true sniper rifle in today terms, and its performance is a bit poor compared to other ones, but it can be fired in desert, jungle, arctic, snowing, rain, and so on...as a real Russian weapon. It shoots only 2 MOA, but shoots it every time. It is a perfect weapon to support and extend range of a rifle squad. Default scope is the PSO-1, but it is equipped with backup iron sights too. The buttstock is made from wood, in a thumbhole-like way. Butt has been rotated a bit, to make it more suitable to human anatomy. Now it perfectly suits to the shoulder, and the barrel - sights axis now perfectly vertical. Also equipped with a flash supressor, which cuts the muzzle flas into pieces, so makes harder to notice them ( the little flashes burns out and disappear much faster).Since bayonet is the own service weapon of each Russian soldier, SVD also can be equipped with it.

In service : Hungary: Hungarian Army, Ministry of Interior. Russia, India, Egypt, Algeria, China, Iran, Poland, Syria and most of the countries of former Sovietunion, ex-Warsaw Pact countries, and all the countries that received Soviet military support.
