Manufactured in Switzerland by Schweizerische Industrie Gesellschaft (SIG). This is one of the very rare sniper rifles chambered to 5.56 mm. It is mainly developed from the SG 550 assault rifle.It was developed in close co-operation with the special units of police forces.Thats why it isn't so suitable for military purposes, but is a perfect rifle for Law Enforcement.
The SG 550 is one of the most adjustable weapons. Now let's see what does it mean. There is a list of 11 features which can be adjusted to suit the user's need:

As now you can see, SG 550 can be easily fitted
to suit the anatomy and firing position of any user.
There is an interesting feature, the two-position gas valve setting. One position
is for regular service. The other setting is for cold or icy conditions which
require more energy to cycle the action. However, recoil is increased in the
latter setting thereby effecting accuracy.
The barrel is a heavy one, hammer forged and screws into the receiver. Its finish
is a matte-black non-reflective coating. A black elastic anti-mirage band is
fitted above the handguards to avoid heat waves from rising off the warm barrel
and distorting the view through the scope.
A Parker-Hale bipod is located beneath the handguards.It
is made of steel, and both leg has a swiveling rubber padded base.
There are no fixed sights for the 550. Instead a spring loaded scope mount is
attached to the top of the receiver. A detachable upper rail is interchangeable
with other type of rails to accept a wide variety of scopes. Though night vision
may not work too well due to the lack of a flashider on the barrel, causing
the unit to "bloom out"
