Mocha is new in our rabbitry and maybe wasn't ready for mothering this time around. She has had a couple litters in the past and has proven to be a great mom. Something went wrong this time though. (This happens sometimes.)  We checked on her many times throughout the day that the babies were due to arrive. We checked on her just about every two hours and found the litter, scattered in the hay, in the nest box late that evening. The babies were not moving, very cold and stiff. I gabbed them all, ran them inside, and put them under a heat lamp. As they "thawed" they started moving and making hungry sounds! I was so excited they were all okay. I fed them baby formula (mixed 100% stronger than for a baby) with a syringe. That night we lost 4. I put the remaining babies in a box lined with a towel covered them with a wash cloth and put the box partially under the heat lamp. The next morning I was afraid to look in the box. To my surprise all four were alive and hungry again! I continued to feed them twice a day. (Once in the morning and again in the evening) Out of fear of them dying from pneumonia, I purchased a bottle made for feeding small animals. It took them awhile to get used to the different feeding method. Meanwhile, I plucked some fur from Mocha in hopes that she might get the idea. Finally she built a nest. I put the four babies in it and covered them. I checked on them after about an hour and a half and they were again scattered and not moving. I once again ran them inside and warmed them up, but lost two more. That next morning, I went to feed the remaining two and found another gone. So we were then left with one small sweet little torte. Two days later we lost it as well. This was a sad experience for us, but it was experience. So, we are looking forward to another litter in hopes that all goes well and we end up with healthy, happy, sweet little bunnies.
