SOME Really Smart THOUGHTS
Because I am a minister I generally have alot to say. But that congregation of mine does not want to hear me talk for hours. I don't know what's wrong with them. As if, they have homes and lives that they want to get back to. So, I have this page to share all my super-genuis thoughts with you. Hopefully, it will be encouraging and if you don't agree with me, that's fine, not everybody does. Did I mention that they are really smart?

How Elvis Ruined our Marriages
In reality Elvis himself has not ruined our marriages. I have never met the man, but with all the sightings I might meet him yet. (I'm just kidding) To me, Elvis is an icon, a symbol, a representative of a changing of society. Canada and the U.S. experienced social upheaval in the 50's and 60's. Of course, Canada was, as always, light-years ahead of the USA, but we will not discuss that here, but I think that we are like 5 years ahead of the States all the time.

The roles of men and women also experienced change in that time. I was reading this school textbook from the 50's and it was explaining how  young women should act towards their husbands. It explained how the wife should have the house neat and tidy, the children quiet when dad got home from work, a nice warm supper ready for him, and give him a few minutes to relax because he might be a little tired and grouchy. I was thinking what happened to that society. This is a 50's textbook, this led me to think rock 'n' roll and thus Elvis. Elvis messed it up for us. Elvis was there in the beginning of all the change and is therefore a good symbol of the age. Women became more independent, educated, and controllers of their own destiny. It was no longer a man's society. This was a good thing for the women of Canada and USA.. It's not perfect yet, but it has to better than it was before.

The trouble with all the upheaval and the change was that it also bred a society of rebellion. Elvis represented rock and roll, and rock and roll represented rebellion. The very essence and foundation of rock and roll was that it was against the tradition, it was not what your parents listened to or liked. Don't get me wrong,
rock and roll is not the problem, it never was. The real problem has always been the attitude and thinking of people, the heart of people. Marriages and relationships crumble because the two people cannot get along. They are no longer connecting or communicating.

There is an attitude in today's society that says authority is bad, or it is not to be trusted. How many people
truly trust their governments, their police services, the church? I would think that the number is pretty low. These leaders have done little to assure us. These groups are not without blame, they have brought all the negativity onto themselves. A society of rebellion reaps what it sows. It has affected the institution of marriage, both husband and wife have grown up in this society. Marriage is not an easy thing, it probably never was, but it gets more difficult when one of the partners decides to be rebellious. The relationship struggles because one partner ends up having to give more and put more into the relationship to hold it together. This can only last so long, because after a period of time, frustration, anger, and resentment begins to take root and grow. The relationship then has to go through changes sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worst. 50% of the time for the worst. God help the children.

Incidentally you should see my Elvis impersonation I think I have it down pat.
Sunday,Sunday
Sunday is not the day of rest for pastors. I don't know what day is the day of rest for pastors. It could be March 27, unless of course that day falls on a Sunday.
Some More Super Smart Thoughts
Super-Heroes and Super-Villians
I don't know if anybody else has noticed this, but I have noticed that the presence of a Superhero, a super do-gooder, is going to invite the presence of a super-villian or super do-badder. In the old Spiderman cartoons, before there was a Spiderman, crime was just committed by regular "run of the mill"  criminals. Along comes the superhero Spiderman and he puts a stop to alot of the criminal activity because He is so much more powerful than the average criminal. So, to defeat Spiderman the criminals have to become just as powerful and skillful as Spiderman, the criminals have to become super-criminals to defeat Spiderman. So if there was no superhero then there would be no need for a super criminal. The superhero invites or creates the super villian. (What's that got to do with anything?)
It seems to me that our society creates a super criminal. Before there was such a thing as security systems and car alarms, criminals just had to know how to break into houses and cars. Now the criminal has to know how to get around security systems and some are quite successful at it. There skill level has increased because of the presence of the system.
I wonder if this is how the church operates. As our skill level increases does the skill level of our adversary increase? Or maybe were way behind already and we don't even know it.
(that's a scary thought)
A Great Theological Debate
If an omnipotent being were to have a fight with an omniscient being who  would win? The omniscient being would have all the knowledge of the omnipotent's beings attacks and would easily dodge them and counter attack very easily because the omniscient being knows all things. However the omniscient being would be powerless to attack because the omnipotent being is all powerful and could thereby smite the omniscient being's attacks. Would it just end up a draw? Of course you have to assume that both beings are evil, because if they were good then they wouldn't be fighting then, would they? This brings up another interesting theological discussion. Because God is omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent, God must therefore be infinitely good. Omnimoral, or something to that effect. Because if there was any kind of vindictiveness or malice in God we would be toast. I thinks it's comforting to know that God is infinitely good and is always watching to ensure that we receive the best.
