Installing the Transmission into the Chassis

After all the wrangling, the transfer case went together with a bit of minor modification, but dang! she looks good bolted onto the gearbox! Big happy moment. So...I decided the best way to deflate my overconfidence was to go back and re-weld one of the transmission mounts. All my excessive dry-mounting had revealed that the passenger side mount was 1/4" off, and I thought that I could just fudge that. Nope - made everything off-kilter and twisty. So I cut and remounted it, muttering the word "moron" over and over under the welding mask.

Once it was all together, it was far too heavy to manage without serious hernia issues. Insert applause here for that marvelous engine hoist! With one of these, it was a one-man job, and with minimal cussing I lowered her right onto the (newly re-aligned) mounts.

After bolting the transmission in place, I stepped back and took a few more measurements just to make sure that I had not done anything else too boneheaded. I also noticed that the prop shaft to the front axle might get a little close to the bellhousing, so a little recreational grinding would happen on the propshaft.
