Working on the Passenger Side

I ended up welding several plate steel patches on the driver's side pillar, and finally the box went in beautifully. I did use the bracket that holds the steering box in place, and it lined up perfectly. Shocking.

Because I decided to do the tougher one first, the second panel came out in less than an hour. I guess that means that I am getting more proficient with the recip saw and the die grinder.

Before

After

This is what the new steel pillar looks like, and I can already feel the difference in the strength of the post. I still have some more grinding and fitting to do, but I am almost ready to weld the new footwell in. Perhaps it will get above 20 degrees F this weekend, at least long enough to do some fitting.

After tidying up the pillar, the second footwell went right in. There are still some places that I am going to brace with steel, but overall I am really pleased with the end result!

Next up -- tidying, grinding, and getting ready to treat it!
