Hermit crabs are mistreated A LOT. First, they are taken from their natural habitat, shipped dangerously to suppliers, shipped dangerously AGAIN, this time to pet stores, put in what are often HORRIFIC conditions (ex. extremely low humidity, gravel, etc.,) sold to whoever wants to buy them, and DIE due to the crap pet stores say about their "easy" care. Hermit crabs are NOT easy to care for.
DO NOT PURCHASE HERMIT CRABS! If you buy them from what appears to be a good pet store, YOU ARE SUPPORTING A HORRIFICALLY CRUEL TRADE. There are people on a hermit crab forum who often say, "It's better than having to live in such polluted habitats" hermit crabs live in in the wild when the hermit crab-pet trade is way WORSE! If you SERIOUSLY want to get a hermit crab, ADOPT from a person who has already bought one from a pet store, so you aren't supporting pet stores who steal the life of hermit crabs.
