Living IT       Yeppoon community groups learned to use cost effective global communications, as a result of a Queensland government grant The Community Skills Development Program in Information Technology made the grant to Capricorn Coast Landcare to train locals in Internet skills and allow them to maintain and expand websites. The project was open to members of community groups who want to learn basic Internet skills: email, research the Internet, basic web site construction and establishing news groups "This program took the fear out of computers" Alby Wooler, President of Landcare said "Once you take the blinkers off, it opens up the world," he said By building community skills in information technology, community groups in small towns will be able to use free software to link up more effectively and share information. They will be able to engage in lifelong learning to empower and enhance their communications. The project is being staged by Central Queensland University's ejournalism centre (http://www.ejournalism.au.com.) at the Learning Network Queensland Centre on the Capricorn Coast.
