The script of the Mia is one the most integral and complex parts of the society
even though it is rarely understood or used. The Madi as the ones who hold the skill of
reading the script are in a pivotal position by having the responsibility of interpreting and
sharing the stories of the past, and the Mia within. Yet even the majority of the Madi have only partial
knowledge of the magnitude of the symbols. Through time the script has been
lost to the point that now even the Madi have difficulty at times deciphering what the ancient texts mean. With this great divide ever growing between the
present language and the ancient one of the their ancestors, it is becoming a question of
the script's survival.
There is hidden knowledge and power locked within the script of Mia making it more important to the society then the people can imagine. The art of drawing these sources forth has been lost long ago soon after their creation, for reasons not known or fully understood. The power of Mia corses through their form which is then transferred to the land of Mia and its people through the stories the Madi tell. So the Mia is not all lost, but is continously dwindling.
Each symbol contains certain substances and energies drawn from the world around them. By pulling and placing the elements together they may reach union and create the flow of Mia that is universal. Without these deeper understandings the script has been reduced to a state of lower frequency. The ancient symbols shown below are unknown to everyone except the Elders of the Madi, however even they do not attempt to learn the ancient form's secrets. Instead a phonetic script based upon the ancient symbols has been developed. This script is the one used in the present day: in the books of tales and the living written language.
The society has become almost entirely based upon the oral narratives of the language thus much of the power of the script has been lost. Further, there is no knowledge of something having been lost. The Madi are able to maintain the flow of Mia through the gathering of people in telling the tales of old. However, this is only a partial use of Mia.
There is one ancient symbol that every person in Mia knows and that is : Mia, the symbol on the first page of this webpage. Everyone knows of source, the flow.
Below I've given an explanation of how I've presented the symbols in the diagrams. As to how and what exactly my characters knows of the script will be a developing process, though I am planning to concentrate on this as his main skill and source of power. Also how exactly the symbols function will be continual process: Thinking of some kind of combining of using the symbols in written form in certain combinations while also
calling on Mia itself.
