He looked at the torn piece of document and sighed. This wasn't the way it was supposed to be. He had made a promise and she had taken away his right to keep that promise. Now the only proof that she had done so was scattered across the floor. He had been the one to rip it up. She had had no part in that. Although she was the one who came up with the dreadful idea. Stupidly, of course, he had gone along with it. What choice did he have? It was his first time dealing with such a matter. He was only twenty years old when it all started. He was practically a child...right? The day he had met her was a Monday. It was a stormy day that looked like it could've come straight from a horror movie. That right there should have warned him to stay away from her. But he was drawn to her. She wasn't beautiful or quick witted. She wasn't funny, and she sure as hell wasn't very smart. But he had somehow been drawn to her. Just like witch craft. Maybe she put a spell on him?...no. When she had approached he felt numb to the world. Nothing else mattered but her. She was his everything. Yet, he couldn't figure out why. Surely he would know why he was infatuated with this creature. It was months later when her plan was acted upon. Poor Joey, he didn't suspect a thing. That's when all was taken from him. He was visiting with her and a couple of her friends when it happened. Let's not get ahead of ourselves here, shall we. Carmen, as her name was, was a secret agent. Why in the world would a secret agent be after Joey, you ask...well...she herself had an infatuation. As it turned out it was with Joey. It took Carmen a whole year to seek him out. Everything had been ready for much longer then that but Carmen needed to grab up some courage. The few months she had known him since they had met showed Carmen that he was naive. This made it painstakingly easy for her to meddle with his mind. That's when she realized her plan was going to work. It had to. Everything was going to be even easier then she had planned out. It was almost too simple. The night her plan was being carried out was eeriely quiet. Like the calm before the storm. That pretty much sumed it up. Her effects on Joey's life were going to be one hell of a storm. Carmen's friends Marcy and Cynthia had come to her house that night to help carry it out. Joey was sitting on her couch when Carmen handed him the drink. He didn't know he had been drugged until a week later...when he woke up. By then his life was in shambles. His loving wife Janice had filed for divorce. It was a quick painless procedure. It only took two weeks to be complete. Joey had asked Carmen several times about what had happened to him. He was confused. Talking to Janice turned out to be a futile attempt. All it got him were a couple of sore parts and a broken heart. Carmen was there to soothe his pain. She was his light at the end of a dark tunnel. What Joey didn't know, however, was that it was Carmen who had shown the pictures to Janice and the tabloids. The pictures weren't even real. They were doctored up to look like the man in the picture was Joey. Joey would never ever do THAT. The idea that he would do such a thing was insane. Why hadn't Janice realized that? She should have known that pictures can be changed. After all she herself worked at a photo studio that did "touch-ups". The damage was done. Joey couldn't get Janice back. She had drifted too far away. Carmen had convinced him that he would be much happier without Janice. She told him that her plan was to keep him happy. She told him to not even try to reverse the process of divorce. So he hadn't. Weeks later, today, he regretted it. The divorce papers still layed on the floor in pieces along with the broken plastic razor and little droplets of blood. As Joey thought about his life he grew into a bigger patch of despair. It was bad enough that Janice had seen the pictures, but it was even worse when the tabloids found them. It ruined the group and his friendships with the only guys he called brothers besides his own brother. Joey felt alone and abandoned. That's why he turned to the razor. At first he just cut the area around his wrists slightly. He had heard from some people that cutting yourself can make you giddy. It would make him forget his troubles. Before Joey could stop himself he dug the razor in to deep. He then broke the razor in frustration and it fell to the ground with the ripped up document. Blood dripped from his wrist at first. When it started to get bad he moved his arms to lean over the coffee table. That way it wouldn't stain the rug for the next person who owned his house. Soon Joey felt light headed. The pain in his wrists was subsiding and he knew his life on this Earth was coming to an end. Slowly Joey picked up the phone. He dialed a few different phone numbers getting answer machines. He left the same message on all the machines. "I just want to tell everybody on this Earth I care about that I have taken my own life. I have no regrets. I suppose I served the life I was destined to. I love you all and I hope that my passing in this world will mean something to each and every one of you". After his last phone call Joey layed down on his couch. He was feeling incredibly sleepy. Joey closed his eyes. The phone rang. Joey listened as the machine picked up. "Hey man, It's JC. Say hi to God for me". JC giggled. "Joe, you had me scared for a minute there. Don't you think this joke has gone on long enough? Pick up the phone. I know you're listening to this right now. I want you to know we aren't mad anymore. I've gotten over it and so have the other guys. I just want to say I'm sorry...". JC's words blurred together in Joey's mind. He wanted to pick up the phone. Suddenly his life didn't seem so bad anymore. He just wanted to talk to JC. He knew he needed help. He was going to die. 'Focus', Joey yelled at himself mentally. He tried to will his eyes to stay open. So they did. Joey never again got the chance to close his eyes. The next time they closed was later that day. JC had intended to check up on Joey and apologize in person. Instead he found the dead singer. The dead gaze creeped JC out. He closed Joey's eyelids. Then he called 9-1-1.
